Super materials for crafts and homemade products, show and tell

  • Dec 17, 2020

Friends, hello!

I want to share with you my impressions of using 2 super-duper materials for crafts, homemade products and creativity. It is a liquid, two-component, mold-making silicone and liquid plastic.

Both of these materials work well together and can work wonders.

I bought them a couple of months ago, but I never got around to trying them. And so, the other day I did it and was pleasantly surprised by the ease of use.

This was an EXPERIMENT I ran for the first time. This is not a tutorial article.

So, for the experiment I needed:

· Liquid silicone;

· Liquid plastic;

· Wax-based separator;

· Plastic bottle;

· Plasticine;

I have SuperMold M 25 silicone. This is not an advertisement, there are a lot of silicones on the Internet for any price taste.

The number 25 is the hardness of the silicone, the larger the number, the harder it is after curing. This one is very soft.

I bought it at a local store for 4500r for 5 liters. If used wisely, it will be enough for a lot. Silicone is two-component and is mixed according to the instructions in certain proportions.

At first I wanted to buy liquid plastic from abroad, it cost 1,500 rubles per liter. The seller advised me to try Russian for 600 rubles. I took it and did not regret it.

Plastic also consists of two components, which, when mixed, begin to harden. Literally after 2 minutes, it begins to set and turn white, while it heats up a lot. After 15 minutes, it is already completely solid, but it gains full strength in 2-3 days.

And now I will demonstrate the process itself.

Step 1.

I decided to make a copy of the bust of Tchaikovsky. I cut out the necessary part from a plastic bottle.

He warmed up the plasticine, rolled the pancake out of it and stuck part of the bottle.

Step 2.

I processed the figurine and the shape with a wax separator. By the way, it costs about 150r.

Step 3.

I diluted the silicone in the right proportion and filled it in about half. I decided to make the form from 2 parts.

Step 4.

I cut the pins from a hot glue stick, processed it with a separator and stuck it into the silicone.

After 20 minutes, I removed the pins, and we got recesses for the lock.

Step 5.

Once again I processed everything with a separator and filled in the second part of the form.

Left for 1 hour.

Step 6.

The figurine is easily removed from the silicone. I also made zigzag cuts.

Step 7.

I gathered the form together and pulled it off with clerical rubber bands.

Step 8.

Mixed 2 parts of liquid plastic and poured into a mold.

After 15 minutes, I took out the figurine, it is still hot.

I made a mistake while pouring the plastic and ended up with a few jambs. Beard and nose are badly spilled, there are air bubbles. Well, nothing, this is just the first try, I will not repeat my mistakes further.

Step 9.

I easily removed some irregularities with sandpaper.

Step 10.

Let's decide to paint the bust in bronze, for this I used acrylic paints.

Well, that's all, that's such an experiment today.

Conclusions:

I will definitely use these materials in my works. You can find them on the Internet cheaper than I bought. On the same Aliexpress. It is pleasant and easy to work with these materials. As for the toxicity, I can't say anything, I don't know.
