Friends, hello everyone!
I am not ashamed to admit if I don’t know or understand something. I am not ashamed to ask or ask knowledgeable people. It is worse when a person does not know something, but pretends to be an expert!
So with a grater, I had the same situation. I have been cooking for many years, I often use a grater, but no more than 2 sides of it. And, somehow I did not think what the rest are for. Well there is.
And recently I was invited to visit by a friend who works as a cook in some institution. Over a cup of coffee, I saw his grater almost the same as mine, with many incomprehensible sides. I decided to ask him what they were for, and he told me everything.
Standard coarse grater.
I have always used this side in the main. Rub potatoes, carrots, boiled eggs, etc. on it. In general, most food products can be chopped on such a grater.
And also, you can rub frozen butter on it so that it melts faster.
The next side is a fine grater.
It is similar in structure to the first, but 2-3 times smaller. Also great for chopping food, especially if you need a finer consistency than the first option.
Third side with oblong holes, I have never used it before.
It turns out that I shouldn't have used this side, as it can help out when preparing many dishes.
For example:
· You can grind eggplants, zucchini, carrots and other vegetables for further baking;
· You can chop potatoes for making chips;
Or chop the onion quickly for onion rings;
· And many more for what.
My grater has another side with similar holes, in principle, as a friend explained to me, it has the same function. But you can still cut beautiful and even slices of cheese on it.
The fourth side looks like bursting bubbles.
The tricky part in terms of washing. But there is a little trick how it can be easily washed off. We take an old toothbrush, a little detergent and easily wash out the remains of food.
And this side is useful for:
· Rubbing hard cheese;
· Chopping nuts;
· For cinnamon;
· For the zest;
· And also for crackers.
This grater also has a side with small rectangular holes, but a friend said that he doesn't use that side either. So she remained a mystery to me. If you know what it is for, write in the comments.
