Today, the loft has seized power in the interior, it is actively implemented in offices, restaurants, small apartments and gigantic country houses. And it all started in New York in the 20th century, when young people actively took up the "retraining" of former industrial premises, they were adapted for exhibitions, galleries and living quarters.

At the same time, the basis remained unchanged: open communications, rough wall decoration, peeling paint, lack of partitions and industrial lighting. All of this has been preserved in a modern style, taking on the role of three conceptual whales.

• Natural wood is no less popularrepresented by a wide deck board, untreated, artificially aged or covered with dark lacquer.

• If we are talking about a kitchen in a private house, you can look at the options for finishing with natural, artificial stone, matte porcelain stoneware or plain mosaic ceramic tiles..

• Does not lag behind its natural counterparts and plaster, which can be completely or partially colored. The combination of textured and smooth areas looks great, allowing you to create the effect of a heterogeneous, "seen life" surface.

• Plaster followed by painting. Both completely smooth walls of the same color and the presence of certain areas with chips and scuffs on them are acceptable.

The choice of one or another finishing material depends on the area. For a small kitchen, I recommend choosing a solid color or plastering with an emphasis on one of the walls with brickwork. Dark shades can settle near a window or on an apron, here you can choose from dark wood, textured plaster, glossy stone, red brick and concrete.

In a large kitchen, you can show all your courage and give power to red brick or dark stone.

Advice! If the kitchen is combined with a dining room or living room, choose a contrasting finish that allows visual zoning. Smooth textures and calm colors may prevail in the living room, but rough and careless finishing materials will dominate in the kitchen.

Don't forget, loft loves texture and color contrasts. You can use matte black paint, brightly colored graffiti, or eye-catching wallpaper for accent.

Sexual and floor matters

Optimal use:

• deck board, necessarily wide and artificially worn out, aged;
• matte porcelain stoneware or stone of graphite shades;
• self-leveling floor imitating cement, wood or stone.

The shade of the floor must necessarily be warmer or colder than the main color scheme chosen in the wall decoration. Thanks to this, the interior becomes industrial.

About the ceiling

Forget about popular stretch ceilings and multi-level structures, your choice is the simplest materials: plaster and white paint. The selected shade should be several tones lighter than the walls, due to this, the height of the room visually increases, and this is important for those who implement a loft in a small apartment.

If the height of the ceiling allows you, you can decorate it with wooden or metal beams, painted in a dark color. The design has not only a decorative, but also a functional load; it is possible to successfully hide the wiring of lamps and spots in it.

Window

Let's move on to window decoration. I hope you remember that we are talking about industrial romance, which is not characterized by an abundance of textiles. You will have to give up multi-layer curtains and lambrequins. Choose between horizontal blinds and roller blinds. The latter can have a catchy large print that fits into the overall concept of the kitchen.

Lighting

Loft-style kitchens are spaces filled with light.

Installation is relevant:

• contour lighting of the working area, including sinks, hoods and lockers;
• one or more pendant lights in the dining area;
• side lighting from spotlights or directional spotlights;
• floor lamp, sconce for soft light.

The shape and style of lighting fixtures should be as simple as possible and even a little rough. Pick up suspensions with geometric metal shades.

Advice! If you could not find a suitable lamp option, make it yourself. To do this, it is enough to remove the plafonds from an ordinary sconce and paint the rest of it with metallized, black or white paint.
