Floor-standing kitchen cabinets make up the bulk of the workspace in this room. Their purpose is quite extensive: storage of built-in household appliances, large dishes, food and other kitchen utensils. When buying a base cabinet for the kitchen, first of all, you need to pay attention to its size and design.

What should these parameters be? This is what we will talk about in our article.

Lower modules design

  1. Kitchen floor cabinets are usually installed on adjustable legs, the height of which can vary from 10 to 15 centimeters.
The legs can be made of either plastic or metal. The former tend to be neatly covered kitchen plinth (e.g. plastic) appropriate height.

Attention!
The use of a plinth is obligatory if household appliances are built into the floor-standing kitchen cabinet.

The washing machine or dishwasher is placed directly on the floor, in the niche between the cupboards, which takes place under the plinth.

As for the metal legs, they are rarely covered with a plinth, since they themselves serve as a decorative element of the headset. Also sometimes used is the technique of "sinking" the legs deep into the floor kitchen furniture modules - thus, an interesting effect of "floating" the kitchen in the air is created.

  1. Modern trends in the design of kitchen sets suggest the use of drawers in simple lower modules, and rotary and rotating mechanisms in corner modules (as in the photo).
Such internal equipment allows you to use furniture as efficiently as possible, and provides unhindered access to its contents.

Dimensions of base cabinets

The height of the base cabinet is calculated by adding the height of the cabinet, the height of the adjustable legs and the thickness kitchen countertops. The total figure is 85 or 90 centimeters. According to the All-Russian Design and Technological Institute of Furniture, this height is suitable for most modern women.

In addition, it matches the size of typical household appliances. In recent years, the average height of a person has practically not changed, and therefore this approved height must be observed by designers of kitchen furniture.

If the height of the user with a kitchen set exceeds the average mark (160-175 cm), then the floor cabinets for the kitchen, or rather their height, can be increased using adjustable legs. Why is this needed? To avoid severe stress on the spine and rapid hand fatigue that occurs during cooking. But for people with short stature, the lower limit for reducing the height of the cabinets is determined, as a rule, by the height of the built-in household appliances.

Modern designers love the technique of placing kitchen work surfaces at different levels (most often used in spacious kitchens).

They determine this layout by the fact that there is a comfortable height for performing various operations during cooking:

  • For example, the ideal place for washing is at a height of 100 cm, because it is much more convenient to wash the dishes without bending over. A high level will become additional support for the arms, which will significantly reduce the load on the spine and legs.
  • The height of the cooking zone should be no more than 80 cm - it is convenient and safe to remove hot pots and pans.
  • For the work surface itself - 90 cm is considered a perfectly acceptable level. But here it must be added that to perform more difficult tasks that require physical effort (cutting vegetables, kneading dough), it is better to raise the working surface even higher.

As for the depth of the floor modules, it is primarily determined by the width of the table top, which is 60, 62 and 65 cm. At the bottom of any countertop, on its front edge, there is a drip tray that prevents accidentally spilling water from getting onto the kitchen set.

Why did we mention this? And then, that the tabletop, thus, should hang over the cabinet at a distance of 1-2 cm. Then the standard depth of the floor modules is 56-58 cm. It should be noted that this depth can be reduced if necessary (for example, in the presence of a gas pipe).

But it can only be reduced to 52 cm - this figure is the minimum permissible depth of the cabinet for the sink. The standard widths of the base cabinets are 30, 45, 60 and 80 cm.

Attention!
Before choosing one or another base cabinet for the kitchen, carefully study the configuration of the kitchen room with your own hands.
You need to measure the height of the ceiling, the length of the walls, the location of pipes, protrusions, sockets, switches, ventilation sections.
This is the only way you can purchase a lower module suitable for your kitchen.

Floor-standing corner cabinets

U-shaped kitchen

U-shaped kitchen

For L-shaped and U-shaped kitchen sets, corners are a real find. They are able to make the most of the available space, make the kitchen more functional, ergonomic, spacious and complete.

Therefore, our task with you when buying a headset is to choose a floor-standing corner cabinet for the kitchen of the most convenient configuration. Let's see what to choose from!

L-shaped corner module

Cabinets of this configuration are quite popular today, so they can be found in many kitchens. Most often, L-shaped corner cabinets are equipped with so-called "trolleybus" doors.

Perhaps the most important advantage here lies in the fact that all the space inside such a cabinet is easily accessible even without special carousel shelves. When opening the trolleybus doors, the entire space of the cabinet will be visible.

But, I must add, the installation of carousel shelves in cabinets of this layout is still not considered superfluous. However, two obstacles may arise here - plumbing communications (they prevent the "carousel" from moving forward and rotating, which means that the use of such systems becomes impossible).

And the second obstacle, but already surmountable, is the high price (with such a tasty "filling" as carousel shelves, your headset will rise significantly in price).

The L-shaped floor-standing corner kitchen cabinet is most efficiently used under the sink. This is due not only to convenience, but also to the fact that in most Russian houses all communications are most often located in the corner. And, thus, you do not have to spend unnecessary funds and efforts to transfer them to another place.

Straight corner module

A feature of this type of lockers is that to one of their sides, which is performed in "Blind" version, any other floor-standing cabinets can be attached at an angle of 90 ° configuration. It should be noted that "dull" can be both the right and the left side of the cabinet. This kitchen floor-standing corner cabinet is also well suited for integrating a sink into it.

The only, but rather significant, disadvantage of straight corner modules is that the area of the cabinet, which is hidden behind the "blank" wall, is difficult to access. Therefore, the appropriate fittings are simply needed here, which will help to extract the contents of the cabinet.

Trapezoidal corner module

Trapezoidal bottom module

Trapezoidal bottom module

As you already understood, such floor-standing cabinets look like a trapezoid, and cabinets of any other configuration are joined to them on the sides. A very interesting and unusual solution for the kitchen. A sink will also perfectly fit here, and carousel shelves rotating downward around their axis. But you need to be careful - while rotating, "carousels" should not touch communications, so as not to damage them.

As for the mounted coal modules: their design is not too different from the design of the floor ones. Most often, there are trapezoidal wall cabinets, close to which ordinary cabinets are attached.

In the event that a sink is located at the bottom, then it is most convenient to integrate a dish drainer with an adjacent direct module, and for the trapezoidal one, purchase special fittings that facilitate access to all items in the cabinet.
