The basement is used by owners of private houses for placing vegetables, blanks, tools.
It is possible to use the basement only at normal temperature, therefore, one cannot do without insulation.
How to insulate
You can insulate the basement using the following materials:
- Styrofoam. The material is lightweight, resistant to decay, does not absorb moisture, has a long operating period, and is inexpensive. It cannot be used in basements with an increased risk of fire, as it is quite flammable and produces toxic elements when heated.
- Polyurethane foam. The material does not allow moisture to pass through, is resistant to decay and combustion, and fills even the smallest gaps. The disadvantage is the high price.

- Minvata. It is possible to insulate the basement with mineral wool only if it has low humidity. Mineral wool is a hygroscopic material and, when wet, loses its own characteristics.
- Expanded clay. Loose insulation with excellent thermal insulation performance.
Warming procedure
Consider how the external insulation of the basement with polyurethane foam is performed:
- Insulation should be carried out in dry weather, when it is warm outside and, accordingly, the soil near the foundation has low humidity.
- First you need to excavate the soil near the foundation.
- Check for cracks in the foundation or peeling waterproofing.
- Apply 1st waterproofing layer. It is advisable to use a mastic that repels moisture. It must be applied in a continuous layer.
- Install insulation. It should protrude 50 cm above the foundation. Use glue, not dowels. Use a notched trowel to apply the adhesive. So you evenly distribute the adhesive solution over the insulation, prevent the occurrence of voids. If you find cracks, seal them with polyurethane foam.

- Apply 2nd waterproofing layer. It must be applied to the part of the insulation that is located in the ground.
- Drain. A drainage system is necessary to prevent water stagnation near the insulation.
- Plaster the surfaces that have been insulated or sheathe them with siding.
