What is mulch?
This is a bedding for the top layer of a flower garden, flower beds, etc. It is done both for aesthetic reasons and for the purpose of some protection of the flower garden from various harmful factors. Mulch is made from various materials, such as paper, expanded clay, sawdust and so on.
Mulch should be free of weed seeds, hazardous chemicals, and debris. And should mulch, pass water and air to the plant. It is usually poured into 5 centimeters, quite approximately.
Pine bark
Mulch can be made from the bark of trees, and pine bark is especially popular, it slowly decomposes, it can lie on a flower garden without replacement for 2-3 years. Often found and easily detaches from trees, just lies on the ground.
Pine bark
Long service life, with the simplest method of extraction, make pine bark the most popular. Pine litter can also be used with bark. This type is well suited for conifers and homogeneous ones.

Straw mulch
Great for trunks, conifers.
Straw mulch
Nutshell mulch
Great for roses, lilies, perennials and woody plants. It is the most expensive material. So, it's best not to throw out the shells of nuts such as hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans, and pine nuts.
Nutshell
Peat mulch
Only the top layer of peat is suitable, as it contains light grasses. Peat is mined in swamps, you just need to remove the topsoil and cut out the desired piece of peat. I dry it before using it. Peat is acidic and should be mixed with lime or dolomite flour.
Peat
Sphagnum moss mulch
It is ideal for roses, azaleas, gardenias, and conifers. It is one of the main components of high-moor peat. Sphagnum neutralizes alkali in the soil and disinfects the flower bed. Helps withstand heat well.
Sphagnum moss
Gravel or pebble mulch
It requires updating the material every year, but otherwise it is completely unpretentious. Woody plants are mulched with coarse gravel or pebbles. The rest are mulching, fine. Has the best drainage properties in comparison with other materials.
Pebble mulch
Chip mulch
Most suitable for shrubs. It is simply mined wherever wood is worked. The good thing is that it consumes less nitrogen. True, the soil thaws under it slowly after winter. And the material needs to be replaced twice a year.
