And so, in order for the atmosphere in the kitchen to be not only beautiful and comfortable, the organization of the kitchen space must be properly thought out.
In addition to the fact that the kitchen always has a sink, stove, refrigerator, kitchen furniture, there must be a kitchen hood. For example, a flat hood for a kitchen, the task of which is to protect the floor, walls and ceiling from soot, purify the air and create a favorable climate. Consequently, this kind of device is the most necessary and significant piece of furniture.

Types of kitchen hoods
The home appliance market currently presents a very wide range of kitchen hoods with a variety of designs. But, choosing such a device necessary for the kitchen, you first need to understand the types of construction, according to which they are divided into types.
All of them are quite functional and have their own advantages. But when you understand the features of all types, you will be able to determine which hood is right for your kitchen.
Built-in cooker hoods
Almost invisible hood
These devices look very aesthetically pleasing, they are practically invisible, as a result of which they are very popular. And built-in hoods are made in several convenient versions (see also the article on built-in cooker hood).
Fully recessed hoods - they are installed in a wall cabinet, as a result of which the lower part, which has a dashboard and a filter grill, remains visible. Most of all, such a hood is suitable for kitchens with cabinet or built-in furniture.
Pull-out hoods are completely hidden and they are pulled out only when the hob is working. This fashionable option is able to fit into any design, while its stylistic features are not violated.
Built-in telescopic hoods are space saving devices that make space much more ergonomic.
Flat hoods

Flat cooker hoods are very compact because they have no outlet to the ventilation system. Structurally, the hood includes a housing, a filter and a fan, so that they can be easily mounted either on the wall next to the stove, or on the surface of the wall cabinet located below.
Kitchen flat hoods look very stylish, and their cost is their main advantage.
Dome kitchen hoods
Dome hood in the kitchen
Devices, the main advantage of which is a huge variety of designs. It is a very stylish and functional addition to the kitchen interior. Due to the available dimensions and the presence of an unusual shape, dome hoods have a lot of power.
Therefore, they are more suitable for spacious kitchens, and they can also be used in the summer kitchen, in the country. With different shapes, colors and sizes, dome-type hoods can easily compose an option that is most suitable for a particular kitchen.
The materials used in the manufacture are also varied domed kitchen hoods. So it is possible to make an all-metal hood with a glass finish, or the hood can also have a wooden decor.
Island kitchen hoods
Island hood for a large room
Ideal for a kitchen where the stove is in the middle. Consequently, the hood is also installed in the center of the room. Models with this design are attached directly to the ceiling, above the stove.
Island hoods are made in various styles, thanks to which it is possible to create a holistic kitchen design with an existing island, as well as a comfortable workplace (see also the article on island hoods for the kitchen). The shape of the island hood is determined by the shape of the island; they can be square, rectangular or even round.
T-shaped kitchen hoods
T-shaped hood in the kitchen
T-shaped hoods are a type of island type. The working part of the hood is open, which makes it possible to save money when buying kitchen furniture or panels. T-shaped hoods are made of aluminum, stainless steel and even glass.
Devices with such a design, due to the combination of functionality and modern technical equipment, are increasingly being used. They are ideal for kitchens that are minimalist and have straight lines.
How kitchen hoods work
Difference in operating principles
Based on the principle of the hood operation, they are divided into two types: flow hoods and recirculation hoods. Flow hoods are more efficient and reliable. These devices remove air from the kitchen using an air duct into the ventilation system.
The efficiency of flow-through hoods is determined by the width of the outlet, and a flat duct for a kitchen hood looks very organic in the kitchen. It can be easily hidden behind kitchen finishes, placed above kitchen cabinets and generally take up little space in the kitchen.
Recirculation hoods pass air through special filters and leave it indoors. They are among the simplest and cheapest, but also ineffective, requiring frequent filter replacement.
How to choose a hood
The hood is an important element for the kitchen
- The main characteristic of the hood when choosing it is width. First of all, it must be larger than the width of the hob. Otherwise, not all vapors from this surface will be captured by the hood.
For example, if the width of the cooker hood is 45 cm, then it will work well on tiles that are small. If the stove has standard dimensions, then a 90 cm wide range hood would be an excellent option.
- The performance of a cooker hood is also an important parameter. The instructions provided by any manufacturer, among other things, contain information about the volume of air that is pumped through the device per unit of time.
Russian sanitary standards prescribe to renew the air in the kitchen at least twelve times in one hour of operation of the stove. Therefore, if we take an average Russian cuisine, then the productivity should be at least 250 m3/час.
Attention: When choosing a hood, you should give preference to a device that has a high performance. Because the quality of air purification depends on many additional factors.
Among them are the floor of the apartment, the intensity of cooking, the length and degree of pollution of the air duct, temperature drops, the number of people who smoke in the kitchen.
- It is worth paying attention to the noise that the hood makes during operation. As practice shows, the noise produced is in direct proportion to the performance of the device. Although, of course, many companies are taking measures to reduce noise.
In particular, they carry out soundproofing of the engine, give the blades a different shape, and this has a significant effect on the level of noise produced. Some cooker hoods have a special anti-vibration gasket that separates the housing from the motor. In addition, there are special noise-suppressing sleeves and sound-absorbing plates at the entrance to and exit from the device.
- In addition to solving problems of air purification, the hood can also have lighting. Some manufacturers equip devices with a width of 50 cm or more with lighting fixtures such as incandescent, halogen and fluorescent lamps. Most often they are placed in the far part of the hood, and in addition, the lighting can be focused in a certain area, as well as change the intensity of the incident light.
- Some devices combine the capabilities of the exhaust and circulation modes of operation. There are kitchen hoods that use a carbon cartridge filter and they are able to purify and renew the air in the kitchen.
- Another thing that can influence the choice of a kitchen hood is the control panel. It comes in two versions: push-button and touch. If you have a programmable electronic control system, you can choose a system of work that will be performed during the entire cooking time.
But of course, it is worth noting that even small kitchen hoods with a width of 60 cm, with electronic control, will have a higher price than a large device, but without electronics.
Of course, a cooker hood in the kitchen must be a must. And the installation of a flat hood refers to an uncomplicated type of work that can be done by hand. After examining the available photo and video materials and installing the selected type of hood, you will get rid of the harmful effects of vapors and gases in the kitchen. There will always be a great atmosphere in your kitchen.
