Good afternoon, my reader. Irga is an absolutely unpretentious and attractive plant that can adequately decorate any landscape. In addition, it is endowed with many useful properties. Cultivation of a culture is very simple, but due to the inaccessibility of planting material, shrubs are not often found in personal plots.

Description of the plant

Irga belongs to the genus of plants of the Rosaceae family, which includes 21 species, forming in the form of a bush or small tree. The most famous of them are large-leaved irga, blood-red and Canadian.

The plant looks very elegant at any time of the year. In the spring, in April-May, the ends of the shoots are covered with white or beige small and attractive flowers, collected in a cluster. In summer, the bush is decorated with purple or blue-black berries and jagged olive underneath, emerald leaves on top. When the wind gusts, the bush seems to shimmer due to the play of green shades. In the fall, the foliage turns yellow, then takes on a crimson color, which decorates the entire autumn garden. The berries are sweetish, have a pleasant taste, grow in clusters of 10-15 pieces, in large-fruited species they reach 18 mm in diameter.

Landing rules

Experienced gardeners plant crops in the fall. In this case, it takes root better, but planting activities can be carried out in the spring. Before planting an irga, a well-lit place is chosen so that the plant does not stretch in search of the amount of light it needs and brings good harvests. Too damp places where groundwater flows close to the surface should be avoided.

The planting site should be remote from the garden, otherwise the root shoots will break through in the most inappropriate places. It is worth considering that the root system of the culture goes very deep into the ground (3-4 m) and it is undesirable to replant the shrub, therefore the place of growth should be constant.

A hole for planting a shrub is prepared with a size of 50 * 50 * 50. The excavated soil is mixed with sand and compost (3: 1: 1). A seedling is picked up at two or three years of age. After planting, it is watered with 10 liters of water.

Optimal growing conditions

Irga adapts well to any cultivated area. To make the plant feel comfortable, it is enough to follow simple agrotechnical techniques:

  1. Watering. The plant is watered only during prolonged droughts and in the first 1-2 years of growth. In the future, moistening is not necessary, you can only wash the bush from dust with a hose for decorative purposes.
  2. Top dressing. The plant has enough fertilizers for several years that were applied during planting. If the culture has lost its splendor or fruit yields have decreased, it is fed with a complex preparation based on phosphorus and potassium compounds. It is better to feed irga in spring.
  3. Pruning. The first pruning is done immediately after planting, leaving a seedling about 15 cm high. After that, the plant will form new shoots much faster and acquire a denser shape. In the future, there is no need to carry out this event, since the shrub itself looks very decorative. It is necessary to remove only damaged shoots directed inside the bush in order to avoid excessive thickening of the crown.
Irga easily tolerates severe frosts (up to 50 degrees), is endowed with immunity to diseases and harmful insects.
