Good afternoon, my reader. Root overgrowth is a problem that gardeners often face. For example, a cherry, pear, or plum suddenly begins to produce a large number of shoots. If you don't fight them, they can fill the entire garden with themselves and drown out other plants. This struggle takes a lot of time and effort. As you know, it is better to prevent the disease than to cure it later. Therefore, you need to find out the reason due to which the plant has a root shoot in order to eliminate this problem and not face it again.

Causes of root growth
- Incorrect planting of trees. This mistake is often made by inexperienced gardeners. They plant fruit trees too close to each other, and over time they no longer have enough nutrients, no moisture, and no lighting. By releasing shoots, the tree is thus trying to save its life by moving to another place.
You can fix this error by getting rid of one of the trees.
- Insufficient watering can also lead to the formation of basal processes.
- Wrong vaccination. Sometimes the incompatibility of the scion and rootstock leads to the formation of root growth. Over time, the vaccination site begins to thicken, the tree develops worse, does not tolerate frost well.
- Diseases and mechanical damage. Wounds can form on the tree if it is frozen over in winter or has received bark damage from a sunburn. They need to be covered with garden pitch. If there are signs of any disease, treat it with fungicides.
- Incorrect cropping. If too many branches are cut off, then the tree can grow green mass with the help of root shoots.
Root control methods
- Digging out the basal processes. Such processes must be dug out with the roots. Simply cutting them off will not solve the problem. There are often dormant buds underground, which, after pruning, immediately begin to activate. The excavated shoots can be transplanted to another place and other plants can be grafted onto them. A new sturdy tree can be grown from the roots, but, as a rule, such trees are also prone to root growth, like the mother plant.
- The use of herbicides. With the help of such drugs as "Tornado", "Hurricane", "Centurion" and others, you can get rid of unwanted processes by simply spraying them. Sometimes these drugs are added to the stump of the mother plant, which must be disposed of.
- Important! When using herbicides, do not forget about protective equipment: mask and gloves.
- And the most effective method is to remove the plant that gives root growth from the site. This radical method is used when other means do not help or there is no time for it.
To avoid root growth problems, plan your planting properly in your garden. Low-growing plants need to be planted to the south, and taller ones to the north, so that everyone has enough lighting. Do not forget to apply mineral and organic fertilizers on time for plant nutrition.
