Parasitic grafting is the safest type of propagation of fruit trees, since the branch that is going to be grafted is cut off only after the root has fully germinated. Those gardeners who have been in their profession for a long time and understand tree grafting better than novice specialists are always advised to start making a parasitic appearance propagation, when the diameter of the plant to which another type of tree will grow will be about five times thicker than the cutting of the tree needed for vaccinations.

How to choose a graft for parasitic vaccination?

A graft or stalk is needed so that it is easy to understand what parameters a particular type of tree has. As a result, the most suitable option is cuttings of non-ailing plants that give a large and bountiful harvest. Their shoots should have a thickness of five millimeters to three centimeters, and the length of these shoots should reach from thirty to forty centimeters.

Important advice! Grafts are best harvested at the end of October, at a time when a couple of leaf fall ends. But do not drag out the time, otherwise the first frosts may come around the middle of November, and time will be lost for cooking the roots.

On the branch that will play the role of a root, you need to count two or three buds and a well-sharpened knife specially designed for grafting, perform obliquely, without a tongue, a cut, which in any case will need to be processed with natural resin or beekeeping pasta. It should be noted that the cut should be two, and preferably three times larger than the diameter of the scion.

All cut branches must be wiped with a damp cloth, packaged according to varieties, fixed with something and marked where what kind.

Store all varieties in a cool place, for example, in a cellar or basement.

By the way, for the root, as an option, you can use either a woody plant of natural origin aged from two to three years, or a cultivated tree, which is no more than three years old.

An important tip: to understand if it is possible to start propagating fruit trees, you can cut one branch and try to remove the pun. If it simply separates, then the tree is being grafted.

Algorithm for parasitic vaccination:

  1. The soil in which the branch cut for grafting will be placed must be weeded, moistened and loosened a couple of weeks before the procedure.
  2. If the cuttings were prepared in advance, then the day before grafting, they must be pulled out of the cold shelter. Wipe off again with a damp cloth and put in water to soak.
  3. Sharpen all necessary tools well and treat with an antiseptic or other agent that removes germs.
  4. On the branch, where the procedure will be done, make a three or five millimeter cut with an ax or a saw to make a horizontal ledge.
  5. Under this ledge, a sharp budding object, cut a cut along the bark, separating it from the surface of the tree. Bend the edges of the bark to the right and left.
  6. Insert the prepared stalk into the resulting recess with an oblique cut down as far as possible. After that, use your fingers to press down the part of the bark that has risen and wrap the twig from the end of the notch to the edge of the ledge with a double layer of plastic tape. Secure the end of this tape with natural resin. The same material can be used to cover up the vaccination site.

How to take care of the vaccination site?

  • cover the handle with a leaky plastic bag to protect it from strong winds and attacks from various birds;
  • in order for the cutting to endure frost without complications, it must be covered with burlap.

How long will it take to see the result?

Conclusions regarding the success of the procedure can be made in two weeks. In rare cases, after about twenty-five days. If everything turned out well, then the buds of the scion will swell, and where the accretion takes place, callus will appear.

After the scion feels completely at home, you can cut off part of the branch sticking out from the outside.

If the vaccination gave a negative result, then the roots should be carefully removed and the place should be treated with beekeeping paste to speed up the soil healing process. A year later, it will be possible to repeat the vaccination, but only in a different place in the soil.
