Clematis

Curly clematis is the most popular option that allows you to emphasize the beauty of the fence or, conversely, hide its unsightly places. A properly planted vine is impressive and pleasing to the eye with its variety of bright inflorescences throughout the summer and fall. Almost out of nothing (from shrubs cut short for the winter), clematis is able to twine around a fence to a height of more than 3 meters, resembling a carpet of many large flowers.

In order for the vine to certainly please with flowering, it is worth choosing winter-hardy and unpretentious varieties that do not require a lot of trouble. Each of them has its own flowering period: some bloom in the first summer month, others begin to bloom from mid-summer. When planting several plants, it is necessary to maintain a distance of at least one meter from each other.

Clematis prefers to grow in a sunny area, does not like the accumulation of moisture near the root system, as well as the close location of groundwater. But in dry weather, once a week requires abundant watering.

In spring, when the snow melts, experienced flower growers feed each bush with ammonium nitrate (one handful is enough). And throughout the season, complex mineral fertilizers are applied, alternating with a solution of fermented mullein.

Astilba

An unpretentious plant up to 1 m high. It is often chosen as a decorative element of landscape design. Prefers to grow in the shade, so it will be an excellent choice for planting under a fence that gives shade. It must be borne in mind that bright sunlight is unfavorable for astilba, since the flowering period is reduced by about two weeks.

The plant has lush foliage and fairly large flowers in the form of fluffy panicles, which can be in all shades of white, beige, purple and pink. Astilba is effective not only with a variety of color palette of inflorescences, but also with different shades of leaves: light and dark green, there are varieties with shades of burgundy. Lush greenery will adequately decorate the site, even if the flowering period has not yet arrived or has already ended.

Most varieties prefer moist soil, although they can tolerate short-term droughts. To maintain moisture under the bush, it is recommended to mulch the soil, there is no need to weed.

Astilba will serve as a decoration throughout the growing season, starting from the appearance of the first foliage in spring and until wilting with the arrival of autumn.

Tall phlox

Tall perennial phlox is an undemanding plant with lush inflorescences, abundant long flowering and a wonderful aroma. Its height reaches 1–1.5 meters, which makes it possible to beautifully decorate the fence.

The option of planting phlox with low-growing plants that will hide tall plants looks very attractive stems and will create a harmonious composition that blooms throughout the summer and until autumn frost.

The culture is planted in partial shade in moist soil at a distance of 15–20 cm.

The tall phlox varieties Aida and Anastasia begin to bloom from the second half of July, and Arendsa blooms its rounded fluffy inflorescences in June.

Climbing rose

Climbing roses with their luxurious noble flowers endowed with a fragrant scent are also popular for decorating fences. They delight with their flowering for 30 days, but there are varieties that have a repeated flowering phase.

The curly rose is distinguished by its arched whip-like shoots, which can reach 5 m in height. They just need a rigid vertical support - a fence. Depending on the variety, flowers can be of various shades: from snow-white and pale pink to bright red and burgundy, as well as cream and various tones of yellow.

These plants are quite whimsical: they need comfortable conditions and careful care. The place for planting should be chosen sunny or slightly shaded, then there will be much more flowers. In the shade, a climbing rose will only grow, and there will be very few buds or will not form at all.

You need to water the plants once a week, spending at least 10 liters for each. Then it is necessary to loosen the soil to a depth of 5 cm and mulch with rotten sawdust or compost. During the summer, periodically feed the rose with complex fertilizers.

To get a beautiful crown with many flowers, timely garter and pruning of branches are necessary. The plant does not tolerate cold weather, so for the winter the lashes of roses are carefully removed from the fence, laid on the ground and covered with spruce branches.

Mallow

Due to its unpretentiousness, resistance to diseases and high decorative characteristics, mallow is very often used to decorate fences. Tall flowers (up to 2 m) resemble multi-colored candles. On an erect, pubescent stem, a carpal inflorescence flaunts up to 50 cm long. It is formed by alternately arranged large funnel-shaped flowers with a diameter of 12 to 14 cm.

Flowers can be pink, white, purple, purple, red, yellow, or orange, depending on the species. Mallow looks especially impressive when it is planted in large quantities. The flowering of decorative culture begins in June and lasts until autumn. After flowering, the stems of the mallow are cut off at the very ground, the soil is mulched and additionally covered with chopped straw or dry foliage for the winter.
