Cutting sheet metal with a grinder is not as difficult as, for example, thick one. But here is another difficulty, the cutting length itself is often very large. Any complexity needs to be simplified!
Therefore, I want to share my method of cutting sheet metal with a grinder, which is at least 2 times faster than usual.
Today I unroll metal sheets with a thickness of 1.5 mm. Their length is 2500 mm, width is 1250 mm. You need to cut this sheet exactly in half lengthwise. The length of my cut will be 2500 mm. There is already 4 sheet in the photo, which needs to be cut.
We put marks on both sides with a width of 1250 mm. We divide 1250 by 2, the required number is the middle of this end. What do we do next?
On top of this sheet, I put the already cut half of the sheet. This sheet will be an irreplaceable assistant in our task. See why.
Place half of the sheet so that its edge is next to the mark of the bottom sheet. It is next to the mark, along this mark, the grinder's disc will go. We fix the top sheet guide with clamps on both sides.
The grinder's cutting disc will go along this guide. Press it a little against the edge of the top sheet and go forward. In this way, the cut will be perfectly flat, no deviations to the sides.
Also, we will not put any pipes or pieces of wood under the bottom sheet. We will not need to cut through the sheet, we just need to notch it. The sheet is on the floor. Very comfortably.
We saw the bottom sheet, we drive the disc along the guide. No need to saw through. We only make a groove in the metal. The depth of the groove is approximately half the thickness of the sheet.
Approximately, exactly we do not need. But even a very shallow groove should not be done. You can experiment on an unnecessary piece of metal, how to drive at what speed to get the desired depth.
Zoom in and out. It can be seen that the cut groove is perfectly straight, which means that the edge of the sheet will be even. Now you just need to break this sheet exactly along the cut, but here is one trick, look how.
I will show it using a small sheet as an example. We break it not for a cut, but on the contrary to the other side of the cut. Also with our large sheet. Well, final, break the sheet in half.
That's all. We made the work 2 times faster without losing quality. Saved time, disk, and hence money!
Friends, a detailed video of this process will be released on the channel tomorrow, January 14th. Be sure to check it out, there are even more details.
