Often, after repair and replacement of the sewage system, scraps of plastic pipes remain. If there are no couplings for them, then the remnants of PVC pipes are absolutely useless in the household. However, do not rush to get rid of them.
It turns out that there is a method that allows you to connect plastic pipes without couplings and other special tools. It is likely that after joining several cuttings, you will find a use for the resulting pipe.
The main advantage of this method is its speed and simplicity. We act as follows:
- 1. Take two pieces of PVC pipe and decide where the flare will be. After that, make a chamfer on the selected fragment, which is on the inside. On the second cut, a chamfer is also needed, only from the outer one. You can omit this item. But to facilitate further work, I advise you to still make chamfers.
- 2. The piece of pipe on which you decided to make a bell must be heated. For these purposes, a building hair dryer is suitable. In the absence of a tool, simply hold the end of the pipe over an open fire (gas burner) or dip it in boiling water.
For clarity, I'll use the last option. There should be enough water in the pan so that the end of the pipe is immersed in boiling water for at least 5 centimeters.
Hold the pipe in boiling water for about 2 minutes. After that, slowly and carefully insert another cut into the heated pipe with the side on which you previously made a chamfer from the outside. Just a few movements will allow you to insert the fragment into the heated pipe to a depth of 5 cm.
I want to note that when lowering the plastic part into boiling water, we heat it up to a maximum of 100 degrees. Initially, I doubted that this heating would be enough for the connection. Fortunately, everything worked out at its best. With a little effort, I connected two pieces of PVC pipes.
Surely, if you use a construction hair dryer for these purposes, the plastic will heat up much more, therefore it will be easier to connect the two elements of the pipe.
After the performed manipulations, you need to wait for the plastic to cool down. To achieve a more secure connection, I treated the joint with a silicone-based sealant. I think this point is optional. If there is no sealant at hand, do not worry - the connection is already airtight and quite strong.
