To extend the flowering period, which traditionally begins with the beginning of the first spring days and ends in late autumn, a few simple rules will help.
Reproduction
You can divide geraniums by shoots. This method of reproduction is called vegetative. Over time, the stem of the flower stretches, and the peduncles become scarce, so experienced gardeners advise to regularly "renew" the flower: cut off dry inflorescences and cut off the processes. This will only have a positive effect on the growth of the plant.
Transfer
The shoot, separated from the main flower, is recommended to dry for some time (just put it off for 2-3 hours). Then it can be immersed in water for a while. In water, the shoot gives roots in 1-2 weeks, after which it is planted in prepared soil. Some are immediately planted in a pot, dispensing with the above stage. The survival rate of geraniums is good, so both options take place.
Many gardeners plant geraniums in their area in the summer and also use both transplant options.
Care
The flower is thermophilic and loves the sun's rays. Therefore, place the pot of geraniums on the sunniest windowsill. In a poorly lit room, it stretches, the leaves become not so green, the plant loses its external qualities and stops blooming.
With the onset of heat, the pots are put on the balcony. And if there is a garden plot, you can take them there. Plants thrive in the fresh air. They feel great both in a flower pot and outdoors. But be careful, the outside air temperature should be stable, only positive.
After a period of adaptation, geranium begins to bloom and pleases with its beautiful lush inflorescences for a very long time.
Top dressing
Proper watering and timely feeding will provide the flower with the necessary trace elements and give strength for a good long flowering.
Geranium is demanding for regular watering. But at the same time, waterlogging of the soil should not be allowed. Water should be done when the topsoil becomes dry.
For feeding, you can use universal fertilizers that are sold in stores and garden centers. You can make a "treat" and at home.
Make a solution: dilute 1 drop of iodine in 1 liter of warm boiled water. Spill the soil well before feeding the plant. Then, 50 ml of the prepared solution should be poured under each root. Repeat once every 2-3 months.
Start feeding in early spring and apply regularly throughout the flowering season.
Long flowering, unpretentious care and simple reproduction - these are the main advantages of geraniums. We must not forget about the beneficial properties of this flower - the smell of the leaves is useful for people with diseases of the cardiovascular system and nervous disorders.
Subject to the above simple rules, the flower will delight you for a long time with lush flowering and have a beneficial effect on your health.
