Good afternoon, my reader. In autumn and at the beginning of spring, apple trees in the garden are attacked by pests. Most often these are moths and moths - insects that can leave the gardener without a crop. A number of measures are taken to protect fruit trees.

Fire fighting methods
Moth is a butterfly that lays eggs on an apple tree, turning into caterpillars that feed on buds and flowers. Each one destroys up to 12 pieces. It is important to detect the pest in time and pick it up by hand.
Description:
- The front wings of the butterfly are red with a touch of ocher.
- The hind ones are dark gray.
The moth caterpillars hibernate in fallen leaves, under lumps of soil. In the second half of April, they leave their wintering grounds en masse. Then they climb onto the plants and are located among the inflorescences, braiding them with cobwebs, arranging nests and feeding on flowers and buds.
Ways to fight
Trees are cultivated in the first half of April - before the caterpillars begin to emerge from the ground. For this, the near-trunk circle of apple trees is covered with roofing material (film). Insects that are unable to get out of the ground die. The cover is removed in the middle of summer.
Preventive measures:
- Detection and manual collection of moth caterpillars.
- High hilling and loosening of the trunk circle.
- Carefully remove all fallen leaves.
Methods of dealing with the moth
The moth is a pest that hibernates in a cocoon in the bark of a tree or soil.
Description
Caterpillars feeding on fruits of apple trees and young shoots. Each is capable of destroying 2 to 4 fruits. Damaged, they rot and fall off. Pests appear in mid-June from dark gray butterfly larvae.
Ways to fight:
- Butterfly traps. Compote (sour kvass or jam) diluted with a small amount of water is poured into a small container. Hang on the branches. Insects are attracted by the sweet scent, and they drown in the liquid.
- Apple trees are sprayed with special preparations: biological or chemical. For example, Fitoverm (2 ml per 1 ml of water), Iskra-Bio (3 ml per 1 l of water), "Akarin" (3 ml per 1 l of water).
Prevention measures
It is important to process the apple trees in the spring - before the caterpillars appear from the ground and their active reproduction. For this:
- Young shoots are sprayed with Nitrafen solution diluted according to the instructions.
- After the buds bloom - "Chlorophos" ("Metaphos").
In order for pest control to be effective, apple trees are processed regularly - at the beginning and end of the season, periodically during the growing season. Insecticides are used, during the ripening of fruits - biological preparations. Chemical ("Decis", "Fury", "Fury") are used in extreme cases when caterpillar colonies are numerous. During flowering, aerosols are not used so as not to scare away the bees.
