Indoor chrysanthemum varieties
If you look at it, then almost all varieties of chrysanthemum are suitable for home cultivation, these are:
- Korean;
- Chinese;
- Indian;
- Large-flowered.
But still, it should be remembered that it is better to breed small, dwarf varieties in a pot on the window.
How to choose a potted chrysanthemum
When purchasing a plant, you should pay attention to the following signs:
- Buy a chrysanthemum, the flowers of which have not yet opened for the most part.
- The lower part of the stem should be lignified.
- There should be no gray, yellow and dried leaves.
- Beware of the cobweb under the leaves - this is a tick that can harm not only the chrysanthemum, but also the rest of the green inhabitants of the apartment.
- Do not buy frozen flowers, they will not last long.
Is a transplant required after purchase
In the store, the plants are kept in small pots. Therefore, having brought a flower home, he should organize a container of a suitable size. But do not rush to do this if the flowers have not yet fully opened. Chrysanthemum is very vulnerable at the moment of budding.
When transplanting a plant, you can find that several specimens grow in a pot at once. You cannot leave in this state, they should be disconnected and put in different containers.
It should also be noted that the soil of a chrysanthemum, when purchased in a store, already contains a sufficient amount of fertilizer for wintering. Therefore, only a suitable soil should be added to the new pot. It can be purchased at a retail outlet or mixed garden soil with ash and sand.
Leaving during flowering
During flowering, chrysanthemum requires:
- Cool. This flower will like the temperature not exceeding 20 degrees, and the frequent airing of the room.
- Lots of light. A well-lit place, but sheltered from direct sunlight, is suitable for the plant.
- Wet soil. Do not overfill or let the earth dry out.
- Top dressing. Fertilize the flower with preparations for flowering plants.
Do not forget that the purchased plant was grown in greenhouse conditions, so it needs time to adapt. Less capricious and more fragrant flowers are obtained if you grow them yourself from seeds.
Remove old flowers in time. You can also cut off small buds if there are a lot of them on the chrysanthemum.
We send to hibernation for the winter
After the plant has faded, and the leaves become lethargic and dull, it is time to send it to hibernation. For this:
- Cut off the stems at a distance of 5 cm from the surface of the soil and remove overgrowth.
- Remove the top layer of soil, and in its place add earth mixed with peat and ash.
- Move the flower pot to a cool (3-5 ° C) room, it can be an insulated balcony or basement.
- Remember to moisten the soil every 3 weeks.
In March, the chrysanthemum begins to wake up. Transfer it to a bright place with a temperature of about 15 ° C. At the same time, the plant can be transplanted into a new large pot.
Chrysanthemum pests and diseases
Although this flower is considered unpretentious, at home it can suffer from lack or excess of moisture in the soil, lack of sunlight, thickening or a large amount fertilizers. Such conditions can cause disease or pest attacks. Such troubles can be:
- Gray rot - brown spots with a gray coating. Treat the flower with a fungicide.
- Powdery mildew is a white powdery coating. Treatment with chemicals will also help.
- Septoria - yellow and then rusty spots that lead to foliage falling off. Remove and discard the affected parts of the flower. Treat with Oxyhom.
- Nematoda - small worms in the leaves, the latter curl up and dry out. Only hot (up to 50 ° C) baths can help, in which the plant should be bathed.
- Spider mite, it can be found by thin cobwebs under the leaves. Treat the chrysanthemum with special preparations, insecticides.
- Aphid. For these pests, treatment with "Aktara" is well suited.
- The scale insects are small insects that suck the juice first from the leaves, and then from the stems of the plant. Treatment with insecticides will help.
If all the rules have been followed, then in the summer you will see your magnificent chrysanthemum bloom again.
