Planting green onions soaked in soda solution

  • Mar 03, 2021

Good afternoon, my reader. Before planting, you can soak the onions in soda both in the autumn and in the spring. This procedure will help increase yields and prevent arrowheads from forming when the plant is growing. Such an effective method is based on the fact that bicarbonate has disinfecting properties, and the prepared solution has an elevated temperature.

How to prepare for the procedure

To grow a high-quality crop, you first need to prepare material for planting. The bulbs must be dry and the same size. Bulbs with rot or dark spots will not work. Gardeners know that the alkali in baking soda kills fungus as well as harmful insects.

Important! Soda ash should not be used to treat the beds.

To make a baking soda solution, you will need a ten-liter bucket of hot water and one rounded teaspoon of baking soda. A prerequisite is that the water temperature does not drop below sixty degrees. Only in this way will the solution dull the production of growth hormone and prevent new arrows from appearing.

In the spring, before carrying out the procedure, for the rapid emergence of shoots from the seedlings, you need to remove the dry upper scales and cut off the tip of the onion with scissors. In the autumn period, such a procedure is prohibited, as it can provoke infectious diseases of the onion.

Prepared onion material for planting is very useful for the harvest, since:

  • disinfection of the bulbs occurs;
  • a high-quality crop is growing in the largest quantities;
  • caring for growing onions becomes easier;
  • all summer, gardeners are actively growing greens without arrows.

How to handle bulbs

After the bulbs are selected for sowing, they are sent for about half an hour to a prepared hot solution with soda. Additionally, you need to look to make sure that the set is also in the solution for uniform processing. The bucket must be covered with a lid and wrapped, for example, with a blanket or rag, so that the water does not cool down.

After this procedure, the bulbs must be dried by placing them on a flat surface. Then you can plant it in the beds.

Usually, if the acidity of the soil is increased, then before planting onions, the beds can be sprinkled not with ash, but with baking soda. To do this, you need to prepare a soda solution in the proportion of one hundred grams of powder per one liter of water. The garden bed is watered from a watering can, the soil is loosened and the bulbs are planted.

It is recommended to treat adult plants with a soda solution in the summer in the same proportions as when soaking the seedlings. Plants can be sprayed with a sprayer in the morning or in the evening, when the sun has already set, as well as in cloudy weather.

If you process the plant during the day, when the bright sun is shining, then it will get burns, which means that the yield will subsequently decrease. It is necessary to spray only once every two weeks. It would be enough. Thanks to this procedure, you will help the plant in the fight against aphids and powdery mildew. In addition, the soda solution is absolutely not dangerous for people; before eating, greens need only be rinsed with running water.

Soaking the planting material makes it possible for the bulbs to be saturated with useful minerals. After such treatment, pathogenic microbes will die, the seedlings will grow large, even if the soil is poor and there is not enough moisture in it, and green onions will have the most pronounced taste.

If you periodically spray the spent seedlings for preventive purposes, this will lead to crop yields and provide protection to a number of growing plants.
