How to securely connect copper and aluminum wires using improvised means

Aluminum wires in everyday life are a real relic of Soviet housing construction. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find such people today. Nevertheless, in old houses and summer cottages, aluminum wires are still found. Every owner should know that it is forbidden to connect aluminum and copper wires with ordinary twisting. For such a contact, special adapters must be used. However, it is possible to solve the problematic issue with the help of improvised means, resorting to the proven method of Soviet electricians.

So, any attempt to connect copper and aluminum wires with a simple twist will end badly. At best, only a couple of wires will burn out. In the worst case, the whole building. Today, special adapters are used to connect aluminum and copper in electrical engineering. The choice of the form and principle of their action is large enough. They cost mere pennies. However, in life it may happen that there is no way to get the adapter, and the copper and aluminum wires need to be connected right now. In such a situation, the old proven bolt method comes to the rescue.

The described method is good in that every farm has everything necessary for its implementation. And even if not, then the neighbors will surely find it. In addition to the bolt itself, you will need three more or less identical washers, two grovers and, of course, a nut. With their help, you can make a handicraft adapter, which will be no worse than a store one, and in some ways even better.

The bottom line is to assemble a structure that will provide a current of electricity and at the same time save copper and aluminum wire from direct contact with each other, in which, under the influence of current, the process begins oxidation. It is also worth noting right away that you should definitely use three washers, since only in this case it will be possible to avoid direct contact between two unfriendly materials.

An adapter is made in just a minute. We clean the ends of the two wires. We bend their ends under the bolt. We put the grower and the first washer on the hardware. We put on the first wire from above, for example, copper. We put a second washer on it, which will separate the wiring, then we place an aluminum wire on it. We cover it with the third washer. We put the grower on top, clamp the whole structure with a nut. We check that all the washers are level and completely isolate the bare parts of the wires from each other.
