Why does the light flicker in the room on the stretch ceiling, if there is current?

Reader Anton asked the question with just such a title.

This is already 42 questions from the "question-answer" series.

Here is the text of the question posed by Anton verbatim:

Hello. The question is: in a separate room on a stretch ceiling lamps flicker, and sometimes the light disappears altogether. We checked the switch and the lamps themselves with an indicator screwdriver - there is current. The machines in the apartment are working properly.

I reviewed the issue and advised Anton within the framework of my knowledge and qualifications as follows:

Good day!

There may be several reasons, so I would like to understand the connection diagram of lamps in a stretch ceiling and how they flicker. Does the wink appear synchronously on all lights, or do they flicker out of sync? As I understand it, this problem never occurs in the rest of the rooms?

Most likely, in your case, the electrical contact is broken. The fact that the indicator screwdriver lights up when touching live parts indicates the presence of potential in the circuit. Accordingly, the voltage on the phase conductor is present, but the indicator screwdriver does not in any way indicate the flow of current in the electrical circuit.

Therefore, in your lighting supply section from the junction box to the lamps themselves, you need to revise the electrical circuit:

  • If the lamps are connected by a loop (the phase and neutral conductors from one lamp are connected to the next, etc.), then check the holder of the very first light bulb in the electrical circuit. Bad contact from it will give the same effect on the entire group of lamps.
  • If the electrical contact on the bulbs is normal, check the condition of the contact on the switch from which the entire group of lighting devices is commuted. Perhaps one of the clamps is loose or the conductor core is burnt. Also, on the switch, you should check the status of the main contact group. There are situations when, due to wear of the contact surface, the contact weakens, and you will observe flickering.
  • Also check the condition of the electrical connections in the junction box. If there are other twists or joints on the site, look at them as well.
Please note that all of the above work should be performed with the removal of operating voltage for your own safety.
