Landing conditions

The factor that determines most of the success.

A place

Onions prefer a well-lit, sunny place or partial shade. The site is selected high, with the occurrence of groundwater at a depth of at least 1.5 m.

The plant prefers fertile soil with low acidity.

The beds for planting are changed every year. In the old place, the vegetable is re-planted no earlier than after 4 years. Compliance with crop rotation is considered a prerequisite.

If the site is with clay soil, peat and drainage (expanded clay or perlite) are preliminarily introduced.

Organic fertilizers are added to loamy soil in the autumn:

  • manure;
  • humus;
  • compost.

Sod-podzolic plants are also enriched with organic matter. For example, a mullein, previously dried in the sun.

Sandy soil is compacted with clay and saturated with nutrients using peat.

Sandy loam earth conducts air and moisture well. Therefore, the bulbs in such areas are actively developing. Peat is added as additional nutrients.

The soil saturated with lime is loosened. This procedure will help to avoid drying out. In the summer, wood ash is added. In the autumn, when digging, - potassium.

In autumn, green manures are planted on depleted and dense soil: mustard, rapeseed, sweet clover. They loosen the soil. When digging in spring, they are saturated with additional nutrients.

Landing rules

Planting is carried out both in the autumn and in the spring.

To prevent the appearance of fungal diseases, planting material is disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

2-3 days before planting, the seed is pretreated. To do this, it is soaked for some time in a growth stimulator. Then dry thoroughly.

Onions are planted in soil that has warmed up to 12 o C. The sevok is sealed to a maximum depth of 4 cm so that the shape of the head does not change, and maturation is not delayed.

Necessary care

Until mid-July, plantings are actively watered. In the second half, they are minimized. Before harvesting, for 14 days, watering is completely stopped and the shoulders are slightly exposed. This procedure promotes full maturation of the bulb at the base of the stem. The method prevents fungal infections during storage.

Water for irrigation is used soft, settled, with a temperature of 25 ° C.

Oxygen access is important for the heads. Therefore, planting often needs loosening - at least 1 time in 7 days. It should be superficial, between the rows. Then the soil is mulched with fine wood chips. Large mulch is not used, as fungal diseases develop under it.

All weeds are thoroughly removed. A large amount of grass shades the bulbs, contributing to the spread of disease-causing bacteria.

Timely application of fertilizers helps to improve the quality of the crop. The first time the nutrients are applied 14 days after planting. The second time - after 21 days.

Periodically, the beds are spilled with slurry or humus diluted in water in a ratio of 1:10.

Of the mineral fertilizers, nitroammofoske is preferred: 55 g per 1 m 2. In the spring, make 20 g of urea per 1 m 2.

Subject to these conditions, you can achieve a large, good harvest of onions, which will be stored for a long time in winter and will not lose taste.
