6 ways to ruin your interior without blinking an eye

Fashion is changing very quickly, but many do not follow trends, and therefore dream of having in their interiors what 20 years ago has lost its relevance. Novate.ru tells what design techniques it is better to refuse so as not to turn the apartment into a nightmare of any professional designer.

The word "renovation" used to be at the peak of popularity, and all its components were considered luxurious, expensive and incredibly stylish. However, the love of pretentiousness and pomp, which back in the 2000s was a sign of a progressive view of the design of living space, is irrelevant today.

In a modern interior, simplicity and conciseness, a well-thought-out and complete interior, in which each item has its own functional load, is much more appreciated. Natural materials, quality furniture, light and spaciousness are the hallmarks of a truly stylish environment. The following design hacks have long been included in the anti-trend category.

1. Stretch multi-level ceilings with lighting

Multilevel stretch ceilings make the space heavier

In some apartments, you can see shiny stretch ceilings with a huge pattern and many spotlights located around the perimeter. Five or ten years ago, such a ceiling caused delight and literally took your breath away, because it looked very rich and presentable. However, today, designers have a different opinion: such a design is very pressing and makes the space heavier, especially if the apartment has low ceilings (Khrushchevs are another proof of this). Tension tiered structures can only be used if you are pursuing a technical purpose. We are talking about the layout of ventilation and other communications, the organization of the structure for embedding, and so on.

If there is no such need, give preference to simple, laconic ceilings without all sorts of frills. For example, you can take a look at the Scandinavian interiors - there the ceilings are neat, without complicated decor, with bright lighting, but without pompous chandeliers. In most cases, smooth matte surfaces are used, which are distinguished by regular geometric shapes. Perfectly flat ceilings are made monochromatic, and only wooden panels or beams can be used as decoration.

2. Niches and arches

Plasterboard structures take up a lot of space

Plasterboard partitions with niches, equipped with internal lighting, curly false walls, artistic arches built in narrow corridors - all this is outdated. Such designs came to us from the 2000s and, unfortunately, are in no hurry to leave modern apartments. Their main disadvantage is that they take up a lot of space and “eat up” all the space, especially when it comes to small apartments. In addition, in 2020, spacious light rooms are in vogue, and architectural excesses in the form of niches and arches only clutter up the space.

Modern designers prefer to use "openwork designs" for zoning, to which include vertical wooden beams, thin metal panels made with artistic cutting. Screens and glass partitions are still in vogue, which add lightness to the space.

3. Beige color

Instead of beige, you can use the trendy mint

Some colors make the interior bright, others - faded, and others completely depersonalize it. Beige falls into the latter category. This shade is often used for the decoration of offices, hotel rooms, restaurants, as it is quite neutral and does not distract attention. However, this is its main disadvantage when it comes to the design of living spaces. Contrary to popular belief, beige does not make a room cozier and warmer, on the contrary, it completely kills any hint of an individual and personalized interior. Especially when combined with dark wood trim.

If you want to become the owner of a modern interior, pay attention to the trendy colors of 2020. By the decision of the Pantone Color Institute, the main shade of this year is Classic blue - a deep, expressive blue. Warm variations of pink, mint, pale blue, lilac and others are also in trend.

4. Neon colors in shrill combinations

The combination of a large number of bright colors in the interior looks ugly

Bright yellow sofas, a green wardrobe, pink photo frames, turquoise pillows - a few years ago this love of color was considered very relevant and modern. Such a cocktail itself looked very original, exploding consciousness, and placed against a light background, it turned into a decoration-manifesto of a new generation.

Some designers called these bold decisions pop art, adding posters of Marilyn Monroe to the interiors, and designer furniture in acid shades. However, later residents of apartments decorated in a similar style got tired of the bright colors. It's one thing when you are in such an environment once a month, for example, when you come to a party, and quite another thing when you have to live in this "rainbow" atmosphere and contemplate it every day. Therefore, we propose to save your nerves and eyes, abandoning the fashion for neon colors.

Note: Neutral shades (white, gray, beige, pale blue) look much more harmonious, which can be diluted with bright accents (sofa cushions, shelves, curtains).

5. Black and white photo walls

Instead of photo wallpaper, it is better to use paintings.

Over the past five to seven years, it has been very popular to use photomurals depicting world capitals. The consistency and appropriateness of such a design solution has not been challenged for a long time, since black and white images always look stylish and elegant, and the skyscrapers of Manhattan conquer with their beauty. In addition, such wallpapers make the space visually larger, become an accent in the room and go well with the bright shades mentioned above.

This is probably why black and white wallpaper quickly became popular and began to appear even in student dormitories. But such accessibility does not always play into the hands, especially if your goal is to really arrange an interesting interior that would characterize you as a person and would not be found in every second apartment. Break the template and instead of skyscrapers, hang on the wall a photo of Venice, for example, but normal size in a nice frame.

6. Layered window draperies

It is better to replace heavy multi-layer curtains with light and light ones.

And again we return to this question. For some reason, no one wants to understand the simple truth: Khrushchev is not a place for multi-layered draperies and lush curtains. However, the hostesses persistently continue to hang on the windows a huge amount of jacquard and organza, twisted into dense, dense folds. All these ruffles, capes, lambrequins not only make the space visually smaller, but also create visual noise, tormenting the views of all residents. In addition, they collect a large amount of dust, and at best they reach the washing machine a couple of times a year.

We do not call for abandoning draperies. They have the right to live, but only if the curtains are light and light. Roman shades and linen fabric panels are good choices (especially if the sun likes to peek into the room in the morning and wake up ahead of time). But taffeta, plush and thick jacquard are definitely time to leave behind.
