Very often in photographs from hot spots one has to see soldiers and militants, whose magazines with cartridges are twisted "jacks" with adhesive tape. For the first time, participants in armed conflicts thought of doing this back in the first decade of the second half. XX century, when automatic assault rifles just began their triumphant march through the fields battles. Connecting magazines "jack" is done to speed up the reloading of weapons. It is interesting that Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov considered such an army "life hack" to be one big mistake.
Rewinding a couple of magazines for an automatic rifle "jack" with electrical tape was thought of back in the 1950s. However, this method of connecting two elements of ammunition in order to accelerate reloading became really popular only during the War in Afghanistan. It was used by both Soviet soldiers and local partisans.
It is worth noting that you cannot just take and fasten a couple of stores. It will not be very convenient to use such a bundle, and in some cases it is simply impossible. If the magazines are tightly adjacent to each other, then most likely they will not even be able to be inserted into the machine. This problem was solved by installing a jumper between two containers with cartridges. In some cases, an ordinary matchbox was chosen for this role.

After the Afghan war, the army repeatedly received proposals to create a ready-made specialized accessory for joining two magazines in the jack position. However, such proposals were vehemently rejected in the first place by Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov himself. The famous weapons designer pointed out that when using magazines in this way, there is a huge risk of dirt getting into the machine along with the next cartridge. That in consequence is fraught with jamming of the weapon during firing.
