Benefits of growing cucumbers in a greenhouse
The greenhouse makes it possible to adjust the conditions for growing plants, maintain the optimal temperature (both air and soil), humidity. At the same time, the seedlings are reliably protected from wind, cold and heavy rainfall.
Benefits:
- An opportunity to get an early harvest of cucumbers.
- Protection against diseases and pests.
- Possibility of garter plants. Promotes ventilation of green mass.
However, there is also a drawback. It is difficult to establish a greenhouse ventilation process.
Growing rules
For indoor cultivation, preference is given to parthenocarpic varieties - with the possibility of self-pollination. And shade-loving. Photophilous ones can stop growing.
Cucumbers, before being planted in a greenhouse, are planted at home for seedlings. This method makes it possible to get an early harvest - already at the beginning of summer. Seedlings are planted as soon as the danger of frost return has passed.
Experienced gardeners combine varieties with different ripening periods. This method allows you to get an uninterrupted harvest throughout the summer.
Seedlings are planted in early April. At low temperatures, special lamps are used, which provide additional lighting and heating.
Greenhouse preparation
Before planting, the greenhouse is pre-prepared:
- Disinfect the soil and walls with a solution of potassium permanganate, quicklime, ferrous sulfate.
- Dig up the earth with the addition of a small amount of lime, potassium and chalk.
Only after these events are seedlings planted.
Growing conditions
In order for cucumbers to bear fruit well indoors, the following conditions are met:
- Watering. The culture loves well-moistened soil, so it is important to monitor this so that the top layer does not dry out. Use soft, settled water with a temperature of 24 C. When watered with cold water, the fruits are bitter. Use at least 2 liters per plant. The higher the height, the greater the amount of moisture required. Watering is carried out in the early morning hours or in the evening, after sunset. The jet is directed strictly to the root.
- Once every 7 days during watering, a small amount of nitroammophoska or solution is added.
- To improve aeration, the soil around the plants is often loosened.
Fertilization
- 14 days after planting the seedlings in the ground, add superphosphate, potassium and ammonium nitrate. 1 tbsp. l. each component per 10 liters of water.
- Before flowering - potash fertilizers. And also 500 ml of liquid mullein, 1 tbsp. l. nitrophosphate, 1 glass of wood ash per 10 liters of water. This makes it possible to get large, even fruits.
- During the period of fruit ovary: 2 tbsp. l. potassium nitrate, 5 tbsp. l. urea and 1 glass of wood ash per 10 liters.
- Light-colored leaf plates with spots are a clear sign of iron deficiency. In this case, mineral fertilizing is introduced, restoring the process of photosynthesis.
During the fruiting period, ripe fruits are harvested every other day. This way they do not take nutrients from the plant.
Pest prevention
Even indoors, there is the possibility of insect pests or the spread of diseases. To avoid this, preventive measures are taken:
- Plants are tied to a support to improve ventilation of the green mass and avoid rotting.
- Once a season, the soil is disinfected from parasites.
- If mold appears on the soil, there is a smell of debate, cucumbers are treated with urea. This will help avoid root rot and prevent fungal infections from forming.
Cucumbers are a crop that requires care and maximum attention. Compliance with these conditions will allow you to get a good harvest in the greenhouse.
