Good afternoon, my reader. After pruning in the fall, experienced gardeners do not discard shoots, but take them to propagate roses. The cuttings are saved and used as planting material.

Preparation of planting material

Before planting, the cuttings are pre-prepared. This measure increases the chances that they will take root.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Shoots are cut in the fall, immediately after the first frost.
  2. Length: 25 cm. At least two dormant buds are left on each.
  3. The top is treated with garden varnish so that it does not rot.
  4. At the lower end, make an oblique cut with a sharp knife or pruner. Then it is treated with a rooting agent: "Kornevin", "Root Super", "Charkor" or "Heteroauxin". The preparations stimulate the formation of roots in plants.

Gardeners mark the seedlings with special plastic tags. Indicate the variety of the rose and the date of pruning.

Then the cuttings are placed in a previously prepared container:

  1. The selected container is disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate.
  2. At the bottom, 3 cm of drainage is poured (expanded clay, crushed stone or pebbles).
  3. Next, nutrient soil is poured: 40% earth for roses and 20% perlite.

Soil preparation

Ready-made substrate for roses is purchased in specialized stores. However, some gardeners prefer to cook it on their own.

Perlite is taken as a basis. Long-lasting, lightweight, porous, it has a number of advantages:

  • does not enter into a chemical reaction with acids and alkalis;
  • does not rot;
  • absorbs moisture, keeping it in the amount necessary for roses;
  • makes the soil looser, thereby saturating the root system with oxygen.

In addition, perlite has a beneficial effect on the development of the root system of seedlings. Protects it from various diseases (viral, infectious and fungal).

Perlite is mixed with river sand in a 1: 2 ratio.

The sand is pre-disinfected. They are treated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, and then dried or calcined in a microwave or oven - for 2 hours at a temperature of 50 ° C.

Landing

Before placing the cuttings in the ground, it is well moistened. They take soft, settled water. Then, using a long stick, recesses are made according to the amount of planting material.

Cuttings are placed to a depth of 3 cm at an inclination of 45 °. A semblance of a greenhouse is being built on top:

  1. The pot is wrapped in a plastic bag.
  2. Above the cuttings, it is fixed with a clothespin.
  3. Cover with a warm cloth from above. For example, a bike blanket.
  4. Placed on the balcony, substituting a piece of insulation under the bottom.

Planting material takes root within 24 days. At this time, the necessary microclimate is maintained in the greenhouse:

  1. Shine. 20% of outdoor lighting.
  2. Temperature not lower than 25 o C.
  3. Humidity - 85%.

Air roses every day.

A signal that the cuttings have rooted safely will be the emergence of sprouts from the sinuses. From this point on, the plant needs an increase in the amount of light. Humidity is reduced to 70%.

Periodically, fertilizing is carried out with mineral fertilizers.

Open ground transplant

Rose cuttings are transplanted into open ground in early May, when the soil and air have warmed up enough, there is no threat of recurrent frosts.

The place for the rose garden is chosen by:

  • dry, with a groundwater depth of at least 1.5 m;
  • well lit, but no direct sunlight;
  • protected from wind and drafts.

After planting in a permanent place, the seedlings are additionally shaded.

Abundant watering is required. The root system is still underdeveloped, unable to extract moisture from the deep layers.

Make sure that no crust forms around the plant - the rose will lack oxygen.

Until mid-July, it is spilled several times with manure diluted in water. Horse, cow or bird droppings are suitable.

Adhering to these simple rules, cuttings after autumn pruning are planted not only in spring, but also in summer. With proper care, they grow into healthy, robust plants that delight with their abundant flowering.
