Seat selection

A place for planting a vegetable is chosen in areas with good lighting. Then the harvest will be large with high taste characteristics.

They prefer the area that is in direct sunlight throughout the day.

Adhere to the rules of crop rotation. Do not plant carrots after:

  • celery;
  • parsnip;
  • parsley.

Carrots prefer nutritious soil, with high air and moisture permeability. If the land is poor, additional organic matter is added to it.

If clay - sand. You will need 1 kg per 1 m 2.

Sandy soil is enriched with:

  • humus;
  • rotted manure (horse or cow);
  • potato peelings.

In dense soil, the root crop is deformed and loses its sugar content.

The acidity index should be medium. With an increased amount, the following compositions are introduced:

  • a piece of chalk;
  • gypsum;
  • lime.

Essential nutrients

Despite the fact that carrots prefer nutritious soil, an excess of fertilizers is destructive for them:

  • loses its taste;
  • small roots develop on the root crop;
  • rots;
  • keeping quality is low.

The disadvantages are the following indicators:

  • slow growth;
  • low immunity to diseases and pests (carrot fly).

In the spring, the vegetable requires mineral fertilizing in liquid form:

  • nitrophoska - 1 tbsp. l .;
  • wood ash - 2 glasses;
  • potassium nitrate - 20 g;
  • urea - 15 g;
  • double superphosphate.

All components are diluted in a bucket of water. The first fertilization is carried out a month after germination. The second - after 2 months.

In the fall, carrots are fed with organic matter. Fertilizers are applied for digging:

  • manure;
  • cut grass;
  • rotted leaves;
  • peat;
  • compost;
  • bark;
  • sawdust.

Mature compost (at least 3 years old) is buried at a depth of at least 15 cm. Slowly decomposing, it saturates the carrots with essential nutrients.

Another effective way is to dig a trench at least 40 cm deep around the perimeter of the garden bed. Put a layer of compost in it, then sand and sprinkle with earth on top.

Preparing the garden in the fall

Before the spring planting of carrots, the bed is pre-prepared. They do this at the end of autumn.

Proceed as follows:

  1. The site is cleared of weeds and left for two weeks.
  2. Dig it to a depth of 25 cm, applying organic fertilizers.
  3. I mulch with peat, humus or sawdust.

A crop bed is made 95 cm wide and 15 cm high. If the occurrence of groundwater is high (less than 1.5 m), the height is increased to 30 cm, covering with boards so as not to wash out.

The event is necessary for:

  • saturation of the soil with oxygen;
  • improving the quality of the soil;
  • retention of snow and moisture;
  • freezing of weed seeds.

Planting carrots in spring

Sowing carrots in open ground begins when the air temperature is stable above zero, and the ground warms up to 8 o C.

7 days before planting, the bed is loosened, spilled with boiling water and covered with polyethylene.

The seed is pre-etched with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. To improve germination, they are soaked in a root stimulator for a while. Then dry thoroughly.

On the bed, grooves are made at a distance of 17 cm from each other, 10 cm deep, retreating from the edge at least 10 cm. For ease of care, their number does not exceed 4 pcs.

Each is spilled with boiling water and powdered with ash.

Then the seeds are placed at a distance of 1 cm from each other, sprinkled with 1 cm of earth and slightly compacted. From above, mulch with peat or cover with a film. It is harvested as soon as the first shoots have appeared.

By adhering to these simple rules for planting carrots, a healthy and tasty harvest is obtained, which is eaten raw and used for conservation.
