We go to the welding or just to the tool store to buy a pack or two of electrodes and see such a picture. Here are the bundles of electrodes, they are of the same brand, but differ in the diameter of the electrodes themselves.
We look at the price tag, and we see that the price is also very different! The smaller the diameter, the more expensive the electrodes. Why is this so? It's simple, look.
Take, for example, chopping rods for electrodes. They take a coil of wire and use special equipment to stretch it, make it straight, and cut it into rods of the required size.
There will be much more rods with a diameter of 2 mm than a diameter of 3 mm, if we take the same weight conditionally. That is, the number of operations with smaller diameters will be much greater. And this is time and labor costs.
The same thing happens with the application of a coating to these rods. The smaller the diameter, the more operations, and the time is money!
I hope now it will be clear why such a pricing of the same brand of electrodes, but of different diameters.
Well, how to buy it cheaper?
It is cheaper to take a large bundle of electrodes. For example, it is better to buy a 5 kg pack than to take five 1 kg packs. In terms of a kilogram, it will be more profitable. But there is also a risk of running into poor-quality electrodes.
Therefore, it is better to take a new brand, which has never been tried before, in a kilogram pack. If the electrodes are normal, then boldly take 5 kg next time.
About 10 years ago, we had a massive gasification in the village. A lot of welding crews worked, and in those days, LB-52 U electrodes could be bought for just a penny - at the price of the cheapest MP 3. Apparently there were a lot of unnecessary things!
