Many owners are interested in covering tools or some individual hardware with a layer of copper. Most knowledgeable people know that copper plating is a rather tricky procedure that involves the use of electrolysis. In reality, steel products can be made much easier and faster to copper. It is enough just to get materials suitable for this.

Important: before preparing a solution of vitriol, it is necessary to protect the eyes with glasses, handles with gloves, and the respiratory tract with a mask.

For the procedure of copper plating of metal products without the use of electrolysis, distilled water will be needed. (this is a mandatory condition, there should be no impurities in the water), solvent, copper sulfate, and electrolyte. For work, it is not bad to have a kitchen scale or measuring utensils on hand, since it will be absolutely useful to observe a certain accuracy when performing all further operations.

The first step is to measure exactly 450 ml of water. We pour it into a working container. Next, we do the same, measuring out 100 ml of sulfuric acid - an electrolyte. Pour the acid into water, then add another 100 mg of copper sulfate there. All three ingredients must be thoroughly mixed until the vitriol crystals completely dissolve in the liquid. As soon as this is done, the substance for subsequent copper plating is ready.

Copper plating procedure

Before starting copper plating, all steel products must be properly prepared. First of all, it is necessary to perform a degreasing procedure. A common solvent will cope with this task. Only after that, the products are placed with tweezers into the solution. All that remains is to wait 1-3 minutes until the copper settles on the steel. After removing from the vessel, the hardware or tool should be thoroughly wiped with a rag or unnecessary towel.

It is important to understand that the more the steel product is held in the solution, the thicker the copper layer will appear on it.
