Good afternoon, my reader. Eggshells contain many nutrients, so they can be used in the garden. By adding shells to the soil, they reduce its acidity, many harmful parasites cannot tolerate this "Garbage", besides, resourceful summer residents use the shell to mulch the beds and use them as fertilizers.

Fertilizer application

Everyone has long known about the valuable qualities of eggshells. For example, ground food is mixed with basic animal feed and used as a beneficial source of calcium. Approximately 90% of the composition of the product is calcium carbonate, in the remaining ten there are about thirty different compounds that are quite useful for the soil and plants growing on it. If your site consists of sandy soil, this calcium is simply necessary for it.

When released into the soil, the eggshells decompose gradually. In this regard, the plantings are not provided with all the nutrients at once, but are supplied with them for a long time. The most important advantage of shells over store-bought preparations is that natural fertilizer does not contain any harmful substances that complicate rapid absorption.

It is best to bring the product into the ground during digging - add a couple of pinches per 1 sq. m. It is desirable that the shell particles are smaller. Of course, they will all rot, but this will take more time.

You can grind the shells with a coffee grinder - this method will turn the fragments into flour, when grinding in a mortar, the particles will be quite large.

Reduce soil acidity

Now you know that with the help of eggshells you can reduce the acidity in the soil and even bring it back to normal. This effect is achieved by adding calcium to the ground. The same element is added to the basis of all preparations.

If your area has normal soil, do not throw the product away anyway. Add it to compost with fallen leaves, mullein, or sawdust, which have acidifying properties. The shell will remove this shortage and even increase the usefulness of the fertilizer due to the addition of irreplaceable elements to its composition.

Fight parasites

With the help of the shell, you can get rid of pests. For example, a product has a deadly effect on a bear. To prepare the poison, take a crushed shell, mix with fragrant sunflower oil and place the composition in the aisles. The insect will be full and die immediately.

The same effect awaits the Colorado potato beetle, if it is carefully sprinkled with ground shells. Pest larvae and clutches can also be powdered.

The shell is an ingenious method of dealing with pests such as slugs and snails. Create a barrier around the edges of the shell beds: these creatures will try to overcome obstacles, cut their unprotected bodies on sharp edges and leave the plantings alone.

Mulch the beds

It is quite difficult to collect a huge amount of shells for mulching. But in winter, you can do this and save up at least for the beds that are in dire need of this mulch.

The product is capable of decaying extremely slowly and therefore performs excellent protective actions. Moisture remains in the soil even in dry times, weeds do not have access to sunlight and cannot grow, and the root system receives a sufficient amount of air. Make sure that the pieces of shell are large enough.

Accelerate seed germination and grow seedlings

Eggshells have the ability to accelerate seed germination and make seedlings stronger and healthier. With the help of calcium, proteins in the seeds are activated. To make this happen with yours, first sprinkle them with ground shell flour, and then with a layer of earth. This method can be used for planting both in open ground and in containers.

Many summer residents plant seeds directly in their eggshells. Of course, in this case, an intact specimen is required - only the upper part of the shell is removed.

There should be no egg residue inside, dry the egg cups and fill with nutritious soil. Plant 1-2 seeds in each container. Place the cups in the egg trays to maintain stability.

Such sprouts can be planted in a permanent place directly in the egg dish. Slightly crush the shells before placing the seedlings in the ground, otherwise the young roots will not be able to cope with the task.

Additional tricks

The shells from poultry are most appreciated. Chickens at home eat full-fledged natural food, which has a beneficial effect on the composition of the egg and shell itself. In store products, the same substances are also present, but in smaller quantities.

Winter eggs contain more calcium than summer eggs. Foods with brown shells also have more of this substance than those with light shells.

During cooking, the amount of nutrients decreases, but such shells can be used as mulch or in pest control.
