Who doesn't know WD -40? Everyone knows VeDeshka!
Today, this tool is so popular and widespread that you can buy it almost at every corner. Is VeDeshka really so versatile and miraculous?
It turns out that manufacturers are just embellishing reality in order to sell a product. In fact, WD-40 has not so many useful properties, and in some cases it is strictly forbidden to use it at all!
Uninformed people think that anything can be processed with VeDeshka. Here it comes in for greasing creaking hinges and rusty hinges. At the same time, users hope that WD -40 will save them from these problems, but they are deeply mistaken.
What is VeDeshka?
To understand what this tool is, you must first decipher its name. WD stands for Water Displacement. This phrase literally translates as "displaced liquid".
The number 40 in the name of VeDeshki also carries a hidden meaning. It turns out that chemists under the leadership of Norman Larsen have long and persistently tried to come up with a composition that would penetrate deeply into the material and displace liquid from it. And they managed to do it only on 40 attempts.
When the WD-40 tool was first invented, it was used wisely. But over time, it seemed to manufacturers that sales were too sluggish, and therefore they decided to embellish the properties of VeDeshka a little. And today it is used both in the household and for domestic purposes, and even during the repair and maintenance of cars.
But let's dive into history. Chemists wanted their invention to displace moisture. The tool should soften rust and nothing more. It does not protect the parts from corrosion in any way. On the contrary, if you spray some compound with WD-40, the agent can displace the existing lubricant.
If you have processed a Vedashka part, then do not forget to re-lubricate it. It turns out that the use of WD-40 is economically unprofitable, although many think so.
The most successful application of the WD-40 is in tight threads. The tool is able to penetrate deep into the thread. But it must be remembered that after its evaporation, there will be places in the compound that rust can easily reach.
The main properties of WD -40 are the following:
1. VeDeshka's penetrating ability is really excellent. The agent easily penetrates between the surface of the part and a layer of paint, grease, glue, rust, etc. Thanks to the WD -40, you can handle and clean the surface well.
2. For a short time, WD-40 will protect the part from dust and dirt, as it will create an oily film on its surface.
But the properties that VeDeshka does not possess, but many of them are attributed to her:
- You cannot protect the part from corrosion with WD-40.
- It cannot be used to degrease surfaces.
- Do not lubricate any parts with the VeDeshka.
- It is not suitable for all surfaces.
- In cold weather, WD -40 loses its properties.
- The tool does not protect the part from oxidation.
There are a number of parts and elements that are contraindicated to handle WD-40. We are talking about locks, brake pads, chains of various mechanisms, parts of firearms, electrical wiring, gear and gear drives.
If parts need long-term lubrication, never treat them with WD-40.
