There are several secrets on how to grow these gorgeous flowers.

Sowing seeds

One way to grow a plant is with seedlings. It takes about 45 days from sowing to the beginning of flowering. Therefore, planting material begins to be prepared at the beginning of April.

They give preference to loose soil with high fertility.

Prepare the soil yourself. To do this, take:

  • peat - 2 parts;
  • compost (or humus) - 1 part;
  • washed river sand - 1/2 part.

The components are thoroughly mixed and treated with a fungicide solution (Fitosporin, Vitaros, Maxim). The event is necessary so that the plants do not suffer from such a dangerous fungal disease as black leg.

Next, the composition is poured into special containers (containers or cassettes). The soil is moistened, slightly compacted and shallow grooves are made on the surface, receding from each other by 3 cm.

Spread the seeds evenly with a small sheet of paper. If small piles have formed, they are laid out with tweezers.

Cover from above with a layer of earth no more than 1 cm.

Crops are moistened with a spray bottle, trying not to erode the top layer.

Cover the container with plastic wrap. Inside, they maintain constant humidity and a temperature of 20 ° C. If these conditions are met, seedlings will appear in a week.

A place for seedlings is chosen with good lighting, organizing a day of light for at least 12 hours. With a lack of light, the seedlings will stretch out, be weak and lethargic. To prevent this from happening, additional lighting is done.

As soon as the first shoots appeared, the shelter is removed. Water only after the soil in the container is completely dry.

Young plants are fed once every 14 days. Use ready-made seedling fertilizers, such as:

  • Fertika Lux;
  • Agricola;
  • "Solution".

Planting seedlings in open ground

Marigolds have low cold resistance. Therefore, they are planted in open ground only when the temperature rises to 20 ° C.

The place for landing is sunny. In such an area, flowering will be abundant and bright. The soil is nutritious, conducts air and moisture well. With neutral acidity.

Peat and sand are additionally added to heavy clay soil.

The area for the flowerbed is dug onto the bayonet of the shovel, adding 30 g of nitroammofoska per 1 m 2.

Planting holes are placed at a distance of 25 cm from each other. Plants are buried in them by 1.5 cm, the void is filled with soil and slightly compacted.

The planted seedlings are watered.

The plants are hardened 14 days before planting them in a permanent place. Take out to fresh air. The first three days, the procedure takes no more than 15 minutes. The intervals are increased each time.

Marigold care

Care after planting seedlings in open ground consists in thorough watering. It is carried out as the soil dries out. Sprinkler method is used.

The earth under the flowers is kept loose. This will provide the root system with sufficient air. Prevents soil compaction. Loosened to a depth of 1.5-2cm.

For lush and long flowering, top dressing is added. Enough once every 30 days. Vitamin and mineral compositions alternate.

Weeds are removed periodically.

Flowers are given a beautiful and neat shape by trimming. Remove faded and wilted inflorescences, broken and dry shoots.

To prevent the appearance and development of putrefactive diseases, plantings are not allowed to thicken.

Pests and diseases

The root system and leaves of marigolds emit a specific odor that can protect the planting from fusarium and nematodes. Therefore, plants are planted not only in flower beds, but also in vegetable beds.

When the soil dries out, marigolds can be attacked by a spider mite.

Thickened plantings and excess moisture cause the appearance of gray rot.

Marigolds are widely used in landscape design. They look laconic both in single landings and complementing whole compositions. They are planted in rockeries. They are used to decorate garden paths.
