Application of dressings for the growth and harvest of sweet pepper

  • Mar 31, 2021

Good afternoon, my reader. For successful growth and development, bell peppers need additional feeding at every stage of development. Lack of nutrients after planting can cause the seedlings to stretch out, lack of useful elements during flowering and fruiting is fraught with a decrease in yield and the appearance diseases. In order to prevent such problems, you need to figure out how and when to feed sweet peppers.

What fertilizers are needed before and after planting in open ground

As a rule, 50-70 days after sowing the seeds, the seedlings of the peppers are ready to be transplanted into the open ground. Fertilizers are applied for the first time even before the young plants move. When 1-2 leaves have formed on the seedlings, it is time for picking and fertilizing. First, the plants are fed a week after the procedure, dissolving 10 g of ammonium nitrate, 25 g of superphosphate in 10 liters of water. Then, after 10 days, the same composition is added.

The preparation of the soil on which the peppers will grow begins in the fall. Before the cold weather comes, you need to dig up the soil, mix 20 g of superphosphate with a bucket of compost and add this mixture to 1 m 2. It is advisable to carry out this procedure in advance, but it will be appropriate in the spring, if it was not carried out in the fall.

After transplanting peppers into open ground, you need to give the root system time to take root and adapt to new conditions. Two weeks is enough for this, after which you need to add a second top dressing to the soil. The solution is prepared by mixing 2 tsp. l. urea and superphosphate and adding this to 10 liters of water. A liter is enough for one plant.

An alternative to the previous composition can be organic fertilizer (rotted manure or bird droppings). When introducing organic matter, it is important not to overdo it with the dosage of the components. Otherwise, a high concentration of constituents can harm the root system and burn it. Ammonia compounds can inhibit the development of young plants.

Top dressing during the growing season and flowering

The total amount of pepper dressings can vary from 2 to 4 times per season, depending on the circumstances. The second fertilization is appropriate after the formation of ovaries on the pepper. 10 g of ammonium nitrate, 25 superphosphate, 25 g of potassium sulfate are dissolved in 10 l of water. The following dressings are required only if the plants stop growing. It is important to keep the interval between them at least two weeks.

Top dressing should be done with watering. This will prevent root burns. The rapid development of plantings is facilitated by the weekly infusion of ash or nettle infusion.

Fertilizer Required During Harvesting

During the fruiting period, sweet pepper will not interfere with feeding with ammonium nitrate solution or mineral fertilizers.

Thus, having carried out simple procedures for introducing available nutrients, you will provide crops with the necessary elements and get a rich harvest at the end of the summer season.
