Good afternoon, my reader. The plantings of the thermophilic nightshade crop are threatened by various insects. If pests are not detected in time and measures are not taken, they will destroy the entire crop in a short time.

Whitefly

It is an insect similar to a white moth, and its transparent larvae are difficult to detect due to their small size. As a result of the vital activity of pests, traces remain on the inner side of the leaf plates - honeydew. This sticky substance is an ideal environment for the development of dangerous fungal infections (gray mold, mosaic, powdery mildew).

Ways to fight

In unheated greenhouses, adult insects will die with the onset of cold weather. Subzero temperatures for a week can destroy the whitefly. And in order for the larvae to die, you need to remove the top layer of soil in which they hibernate. In addition, you can disinfect the greenhouse room with the smoke of burning sulfur bombs.

When the whitefly population reaches catastrophic proportions, chemical insecticides are used: Fufanon-Nova, Verticillin, Biovert, Aktara, Confidor Extra.

Colorado beetle

This insect prefers nightshade crops to all plants. Adults are easy to spot and identify with their bright striped carapace. Orange Colorado potato beetle larvae are also prominent on green pepper bushes. The pest multiplies very quickly. Its voracious larvae leave only eaten skeletons of stems from the bushes.

Control methods

The pest and its larvae are collected by hand if the weather does not allow the plants to be treated with chemicals. To scare away insects, aromatic herbs and flowers are planted next to the beds of pepper: calendula, marigolds, basil, etc.

In addition, folk methods are used. A glass of wood ash and a bunch of chopped wormwood are added to a bucket of hot water. The container is covered and the composition is allowed to brew for 12-24 hours. The strained infusion is sprayed on the crown of the plants.

From chemical insecticidal preparations used: "Aktara", "Aktellik", "Iskra", "Inta-TsM", "Bitoxibacillin", etc. Processing is carried out in the morning or evening hours.

Medvedka

A large pest (about 8 cm in length) damages the root system of garden crops. Finding an insect is not easy, since it spends most of its time underground. After abundant watering, you can see some elevation of the topsoil on the beds - traces of the bear's movement along the underground passages.

Important! The insect prefers to spend the winter in fresh compost or manure heaps. Therefore, only rotted organic matter should be used to fertilize the beds.

Ways to fight

To get rid of the pest in May-June (the period of activity of the bear), light traps are placed in greenhouses. They are placed over containers with a water-kerosene mixture. Striking a light source, insects fall into an emulsion, from which they cannot get out.

In addition to standard procedures (regular removal of weeds, loosening of the soil), chemicals are used: Medvetox, Thunder, Grizzly, Terradox, etc. These substances are embedded in the ground to a depth of 5-7 cm before planting seedlings in a greenhouse or at the beginning of the growing season.

Ants

These hardworking insects are dangerous because they are in constant "fellowship" (symbiosis) with aphids. Where ants live, whole colonies of small pests that feed on plant sap always live. Therefore, anthills are destroyed mechanically, they are poured with boiling water or various traps are set.

Control methods

Deep underground communications of anthills are not so easy to ruin. Therefore, the most effective means to combat them are pesticides. In the place of accumulation of insects, the soil is treated with drugs: "Pochin", "Muravyin", "Terradoks", "Anteater", "Thunder-2", etc.

Preventive measures

At the end of each season, plant residues are removed from the greenhouses, and the soil is dug up to the depth of a shovel bayonet. Walls and soil are treated with disinfectant solutions of biological products: Trichodermin, Baikal EM-1, Fitosporin, Baktofit, etc.

From budget disinfectants, a solution of copper sulfate is used (50 g of funds for a bucket of water). Sowing green manure gives a good effect. These plants improve the structure of the soil and increase its fertility. In addition, they contribute to the development of beneficial microflora that suppresses pathogenic microorganisms and small pests that winter in the soil.

Planting peppers attracts various pests. To protect plants from insects and preserve the harvest, it is necessary to identify the threat in time and take effective measures.
