Is it possible to cut metal with an electrode instead of a grinder

Greetings to everyone on our channel. A channel for self-taught beginners in welding and locksmiths. Many beginners often burn through the metal, and immediately ask themselves the question, is it possible to specially cut the metal with an electrode?

Of course you can, but it should be done only when urgently needed, in special cases when there are no other options. Let's take a look at a couple of examples with illustrative photos.

A couple of years ago I had such a small kalym. It was necessary to change the mountings of the pillows on the cargo semitrailer - this is the replacement of springs in modern technology.

It was required to cut off the old thick plates with holes, and weld new ones on this place, the old plates had a large production of this hole.

I sawed off 2 old welds with a grinder. But it was problematic to get close to the third, the wing and the wheel were almost end-to-end. Of course, one could take them off, but this is the time. It was decided to cut this seam with electrode welding.

The technique is as follows. We put a higher current, direct the arc to the beginning of the seam and heat the point to a liquid state. So as soon as the point became fluid, we sort of pick up this drop, remove it, throw it off. And so point by point, we go from top to bottom, cut off the old seam.

The task was completed. The old plate is easily detached. We clean up all the scales, prepare a place for a new welding.

Or you need to weld a bushing or small diameter pipe into any metal surface. Do not weld, namely, weld with deepening.

Here you also have to cut the metal with an electrode. It's just that sometimes holes of this diameter are needed - small to cut with a grinder, but large to choose the diameter of the drill.

There are, of course, now also crowns for metal, but it is advisable to buy them when you need to make a lot of holes. For one-time work, you can burn through with an electrode.

So it is quite possible to cut metal with an electrode, but it is advisable to do this in extreme cases. When the grinder simply cannot be reached, or when it is impossible to make such a shape without burning through.
