Good afternoon, my reader. Geranium gives the owner a lush and spectacular bloom that lasts for several months. But sometimes an unpretentious plant does not release inflorescences, and if they are, then they are small and wither quickly. The problem is solvable, you just need to know its causes and ways to fix them.

Biological diversity

The flowering period of geraniums lasts from May to October, which largely explains the popularity of the plant. Experienced collectors of home flowers can create such conditions that geraniums do not hibernate even in winter.

Based on the difference in the structure of inflorescences, color and other characteristics, the culture is divided into types:

  1. King geraniums are the most attractive species. Large inflorescences grow on tall and lush bushes with carved leaves, which wither after 3 months.
  2. instagram viewer
  3. Zonal. Dark circles are drawn on the leaf plates, which divide them into sections. Small inflorescences quickly fall off and are replaced by new ones, which gives the impression of continuous flowering.
  4. Fragrant. Representatives of the species have small leaves exude a pleasant aroma, bright buds, bushes of medium height.

Why is there no bloom

Pelargonium is easy to care for, but if basic needs are violated, then the plant stops producing flower stalks.

The reasons are as follows:

  1. Excessively frequent and abundant watering. Geranium is very sensitive to excess moisture, a short drought is not harmful for it.
  2. Little lighting. The bush stretches upward, becomes loose.
  3. No pruning done for a long time.
  4. Geraniums are not fed. For the formation of inflorescences, it needs potash fertilizers. It is advisable to use mineral complexes, since organics are not suitable for culture.
  5. Incorrect pot volume. When there is too much soil, the root system begins to grow, and the plant saves energy on flowering.
  1. There is no normal wintering period. Geranium is left in a cool room with the possibility of additional lighting for 5-6 hours, watered very moderately.

Stimulating flowering

Artificial stress for geraniums will help to activate the growth of inflorescences. When a plant suddenly finds itself in life-threatening conditions, it tends to leave offspring in a short time.

Unfavorable factors that will serve as an impetus for flowering:

  • cold wintering;
  • an increase in the content of iodine in the soil;
  • strong spring pruning, which leaves 2-4 eyes;
  • summer landing on a flower bed or rearrangement to a balcony.

The process will be accelerated by additional conditions:

  1. High-quality lighting that directly contributes to the formation of inflorescences. The geranium bush is placed on the south side. One of the symptoms of a lack of sun is a bare trunk.
  2. Timely watering. Dryness of the top layer of the soil indicates the need to moisturize the flower. In the heat, indoor geranium is watered every day, at other times no more than 2 times a week. Do not saturate the pot with water to store moisture. This will lead to root rot and diseases of the green part, and such specimens almost never survive.
  3. Planting in a shallow pot will cause the geraniums to discard inflorescences more often. The soil is kneaded from turf, humus and sand.
  4. Dry foliage. Spraying is contraindicated for the flower, regardless of the humidity level and season.
  5. Comfortable temperature. Geranium goes into a state of rest at +15 ° C.
In the fall, unnecessary shoots and old stems are pruned, and in the spring, when coming out of hibernation, the bush is pinched. Be sure to feed once every 2 weeks with a complex for indoor plants.
