From time to time, life poses very specific tasks for the master and master. For example, one day you may need to make a hole in the tool steel. Such a task may seem extremely difficult to some, because it is quite obvious that most carpentry, locksmith, and even cutlery must be made of very durable metal.

It doesn't matter what you need to drill: metal, plastic, wood, concrete. Ultimately, it all comes down to the ratio of material hardness indicators. Namely, the hardness of what is drilled and what will be drilled. Even a beginner should have heard of such a designation as HRC - Rockville Hardness Scale. It is most widely used in metallurgy. The bottom line is that a harder material can always physically affect a softer material when force is applied.

Thus, in order to drill even tool steel, even hardened steel, in fact, it is enough to choose a suitable drill with a superior HRC index. The more it exceeds the HRC of the material being drilled, the better. So, for example, victorious drills have an HRC of 80-90 points. Diamond drills have an HRC of 100 points or more. For comparison, a hacksaw blade has an HRC of 40 points, only a small section of the blade is hardened where the teeth are located. The files have an HRC of 40-65 points. Most kitchen knives (not the worst ones) have an HRC of around 50 points.

Of course, all this does not mean that metal will be drilled like oil. However, the task is ultimately far from impossible. Moreover, experienced craftsmen should be well aware of the need to use in such matters cutting fluids that are applied to the drill or to the drilling site before starting works. In the most difficult situations, you can use a solid chisel or a welding machine, marking the entry point of the drill to facilitate subsequent work. Also, do not forget that you should not drill immediately at high speeds.
