The East European Shepherd Dog was bred in the 1930s in the Soviet Union for the needs of the army, police and the national economy. The breed was created for use in the most varied and harsh climatic conditions. The basis of the domestic shepherd dog was taken from Germany exported from Germany. The last dog breeders were bred at the end of the 19th century for all the same service, economic and military needs. Both dogs are very similar, but they also have many important differences.

1. Training

Unlike the pedantic and responsible Germans, the Shepherd is the complete opposite of its creators (ironically). Working with a German Shepherd can be difficult even for a good specialist. This is because the Germans are too playful and often forgotten at first. For a long time, training for them remains a kind of funny and fun way to spend time with the owner. But the East European Shepherd is much more prone to order, discipline and clear command execution. Working with such dogs is easier and calmer.

2. Abilities

Both dogs are very similar in this respect: strong, hardy, intelligent, selflessly loyal and obedient if handled correctly. However, there are moments that affect the performance of rocks, depending on the climate. Initially, the "German" was not raised to work in too hot or too cold climates, and therefore quickly loses a significant part of its efficiency in frost or heat. But its eastern counterpart, on the contrary, was specially grown for "hardcore" work, and therefore easily tolerates both the heat of Central Asia and the frost of Siberia.

3. Temperament

Both dog breeds are exceptionally resistant to stress and, with proper training, will carry out their duties until the end of their life (if circumstances or official duties require it). At the same time, German Shepherds are still more emotional: they bark more often, they can sometimes whine. But the eastern shepherd is most often absolutely without emotional. Sometimes even going to some kind of robot.

4. Aggressiveness

There is a stereotype (thanks in large part to the WWII movies) that the German Shepherd is literally a Satanic creature! In fact, in terms of aggressiveness, the "Germans" are not so radical. They cannot even always bark at a stranger, choosing a wait-and-see tactic and simply observing the intruder until he does something suspicious. But the imperturbable "Easterners", on the contrary, sometimes even show excessive aggressiveness when it comes to performing their official duties.

5. Appearance

And, of course, dogs are different in appearance! True, they do not always have a different color of fur. Sometimes the "Easterners" look exactly like their German relatives. Moreover, the dog bred in the USSR is much larger. The back of the East European Shepherd Dog resembles a knitting needle, while the back of the German Shepherd Dog has a characteristic curve. Differences in physique are especially noticeable during running. "German" is graceful like a lynx. But the "oriental" literally jumps with powerful, sweeping movements.

Which Shepherd is Better? Both are good. The main thing to remember is that both the German and the East European Shepherd are not a tame dog for going to cafes with girlfriends. Dogs need proper grooming, proper diet, constant training and care.
