The 20-round magazine for the vast majority of pistol models looks like something really special. As a rule, these are equipped only as part of a variety of tuning. Most submachine guns and assault rifles have 30 rounds magazines. Knowing all this, a pistol with a magazine for 50 ammunition looks like something from a science fiction work. Not really. This exists and the characteristic "banana" does not "hang" on its handle.
The Kel-Tec P50 pistol was developed by American gunsmiths engineers based on the Belgian-made FN P90 submachine gun. When creating the newest and essentially unique short-barreled weapon, the Americans started from the very specific 50-cartridge magazine of the P90 assault rifle. Such an element of ammunition is charged with cartridges of 5.7x28 mm SS190 caliber. Despite their modest dimensions, the cartridges have a simply monstrous penetrating ability, turning the weapon using them into a real thunderstorm of body armor.
The Kel-Tec P50 pistol will hit the American market in 2021. The approximate cost of this weapon was US $ 900-1000. The novelty weighs 1.43 kg without loaded cartridges. The dimensions of the weapon are 380x170x50 mm. To release the hook, you need to apply a force of 2.26 kg. Despite a fairly large store, the weapon turned out to be very compact. This is due to the fact that the ammunition element is not loaded through the handle, but is inserted into the receiver of the pistol from above, after the latter is folded back like the hood of a car. The magazine is fixed with a rigid latch. A Picatinny rail is installed on the barrel of the weapon, allowing you to equip the weapon with a variety of tactical accessories.
Experts assess the prospects of the Kel-Tec P50 pistol in the civilian market ambiguously. On the one hand, the weapon is still too large (especially by the standards of a pistol) to be used as a carry-around means of ensuring personal safety. On the other hand, a 50-round magazine and monstrous stopping power coupled with an interesting modern design will surely attract a lot of buyers. It is possible that not ordinary citizens will show a special interest in weapons, but special services, the police and the army.
