To increase the yield of greenhouse peppers, they should be fed regularly. At the same time, it is important not to be mistaken with the choice of fertilizers for application to the soil, as well as preparations for treating the plants themselves. When purchasing top dressing, you need to pay attention to its composition, since not every drug can be one hundred percent suitable for this culture.

Elements necessary for peppers

First of all, you should consider the frequency of feeding. Its implementation is often not recommended, since the oversaturation of the soil with nutrients will lead to accelerated growth of tops at the expense of yield. The fertilization time is calculated taking into account the stages of development of the peppers:

  • strengthening young green shoots;
  • their further development;
  • bloom;
  • the appearance of fruit ovaries;
  • at the fruiting stage.

Of the main mineral elements and substances used for feeding greenhouse peppers, it can be noted:

  • nitrogen, which helps to increase the green mass of the bushes;
  • phosphorus, which ensures the development of a full-fledged root system, as well as contributes to the formation of fruit ovaries and their normal timely ripening;
  • potassium (if it is insufficient, the fruits will be small, their shape and color will change for the worse);
  • magnesium - like phosphorus, this element contributes to the development of a healthy root system.

The choice of preparations for feeding peppers and its features

The first feeding of peppers is carried out two weeks after planting the seedlings in the greenhouse, not earlier. The use of nitrogen fertilizers will contribute to an increase in the green mass of the bushes. Top dressing is carried out mainly with ammonium nitrate or urea, which is delivered to the pepper bushes by spraying their aerial parts. Urea will help accelerate the growth of bushes and their development. When using powder dressing, it is scattered over the soil surface.

The use of ammonium nitrate is no less effective, but, in comparison with urea, it is more aggressive, which is why it is not used in dry form for feeding, but a solution is prepared by diluting one tbsp. spoon in 10 liters of water. Plants are watered with this solution, carrying out their root feeding. Watering is repeated after another 2 weeks. In order to prevent burns of shoots, top dressing is carried out in the morning or in the evening.

The next stage of feeding is before the flowering of the bushes. This is usually the beginning of summer. Top dressing is carried out with potassium-phosphorus fertilizers. You can also mix potassium sulfate with superphosphate, taking each of them 1 tbsp. l. and diluted in 10 liters of water. Top dressing of pepper bushes with these fertilizers is also carried out twice: before flowering and at the stage of ovary formation.

You can also use potassium humate for feeding (3 g per 10 l of liquid). Watering the peppers with this solution is carried out three times: before flowering, before the formation of ovaries, and also during the ripening of the fruits. It should be borne in mind that it is not recommended to combine the simultaneous feeding of peppers with a solution of potassium humate and phosphorus.

At the stage of fruiting peppers, fertilizers containing nitrogen and potassium are used to feed them. They are found, for example, in potassium nitrate. A solution is prepared from it by taking 15 g per 10 liters of water. Watering is carried out directly under the bushes.

During the ripening of the fruits of the peppers, other substances are also used - for example, sulfur, which is added to the mulch. Sulfur helps to prolong the fruiting time. With an obvious insufficiency of nitrogen content in the soil, ammonium sulfate is introduced into it. These elements do not pose a threat to plants. They quickly penetrate into the soil, being evenly distributed in it, after which they are actively absorbed by the roots of plants.
