Method one - obtaining rights through recognition as an ownerless thing
This method is difficult, but impossible. First and foremost, weapons should be handed over to law enforcement officers using the standard seizure procedure. You cannot touch the weapon at this moment. After it is seized, you should apply to the LRO with a request to recognize a specific item of the arsenal - an ownerless thing, and then, in accordance with Articles 225 and 228 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, will declare its rights to the "grandfather's gun" property. At the same time, it is good if by this time a license and all the documents necessary for the transfer of property rights have already been issued. It is best to consult with a notary before the court.
Then only the court will remain. It should be noted that in such cases decisions are made in favor of citizens, but not too often. Especially if there are no documents left on the grandfather's weapon. If they do exist, then it is easier to go the other way.
Method two - confirmation of "inheritance"
This method is much simpler than the first one, although it can be implemented only if there are any documents remaining confirming the official fact of possession of this weapon by one of the ancestors. If the weapon was exactly found, then first you will have to go through the standard procedure for photographing its location. It should be remembered that it is prohibited to touch the weapon until all procedures are completed. Otherwise, you can get a fine for illegal storage. The officers of the authorities will confiscate the weapon, and in return they will have to leave the protocol.

After the arsenal item is seized by government officials, it is necessary to write a statement to the LRO and inform in it that this "trunk" was previously officially registered on your relative. After that, another application is written with a request to transfer the item into ownership. This petition will launch a procedure for checking past owners and the history of weapons, within which it is recommended to present all remaining documents. After the completion of the examination, a court will have to go through, which will decide the fate of the hereditary object: disposal or transfer to a new owner. In the latter case, all that remains is to pay the established fee.
