Greetings to the guests of our channel about welding and metalworking! Special thanks to subscribers for their trust and interesting comments.

This year I bought a house in the village and now I am doing repairs there. One room had to completely redo the floors. It all started with the manufacture of pedestals for logs.

Lags are usually made of brick or asbestos pipe, but since I had a stock of galvanized pipe with a diameter of 48 mm, I decided to make piles from this pipe instead of pedestals. Before reading further, check out the article about these piles - read HERE

Then he cut off the extra pipes at the desired level and continued to play, see what and how.

I cut pieces of the corner, I will weld them to the ends of the pipe. We attach a mass to the column, put a corner in the center of the pipe, naturally in the middle of the corner.

The electrode had to be bent into an arc, so it was easier to cook. And so I welded all the corners - this is now the area for the lag. I bought oak logs, this is a beam of 100 x 100 mm.

The beam was laid on the platforms from the corners. A room 5 meters wide, timber in pieces of 2 and 3 meters. That is, the timber had to be joined. I did it like this.

We cut it down from the end of the timber to half its thickness, to a depth of about 350 mm, just did not measure it, maybe a little more. We gash on both pieces, and then we combine, drill holes diagonally of this lock and tighten with metal bolts.

We get a strong connection. Under this lock, I also put pieces of timber as a support, this is for calming, I think, and so this connection would not sag and loosen over time.

To further fix the timber to the platforms, I additionally welded a fortieth strip with a drilled hole close to the timber. Through this hole, I screwed self-tapping screws with a length of 50 mm.

This is the final touch to work with logs just before laying the floors. We lay pieces of roofing material between the metal corner and a wooden bar. So that the timber does not take moisture and does not rot.

Here's a design. Logs made of wood on a galvanized pipe base. Let's hope that everything will stand for a long time. I wish I could finish the renovation and move to the village!
