We plant after harvesting garlic: what is possible and what is not
You cannot plant crops from the same family on the same bed again - even inexperienced gardeners know this. The fact is that similar plants will need about the same set of nutrients and trace elements for development. Their diseases are also similar and will be transmitted through the soil. Therefore, after garlic, the following plants should not be planted: garlic, onions, cabbage, nightshades, beets and various bulbs.
At the same time, strawberries and strawberries, radishes, daikon, black radish, greens, various siderates - oats, peas and mustard will be delighted with the soil after garlic.
Let's take a closer look at what these plants will get after garlic.
Strawberries or garden strawberries
A precursor such as garlic, during its growth, scares away diseases and kills pests that this berry culture is so afraid of. Strawberry seedlings take root well and get sick less often. Bushes are usually planted at the end of the last summer month or at the very beginning of September. A phacelia can be planted in front of the strawberries. This plant prepares the soil wonderfully.
Roots
Lovers of short daylight hours - root crops - will treat well the place where garlic used to grow.
- Radish. Most gardeners sow this root crop in early spring and in the summer do not even try to plant it a second time. However, the radish planted in July will be much juicier and tastier than the one ripened in early summer.
- Daikon and radish. If you plant these crops closer to autumn, they will not throw out the arrow, and a 14-hour daylight hours are the best for good root growth. During this period, radish of late varieties is planted specifically to obtain root crops with good keeping quality.
Cucumbers
In July, you can try to plant cucumbers with an early ripening period in a place freed from garlic. The soil after the garlic will have a beneficial effect on the cucumbers - they will not get sick and be attacked by pests.
Greens
Spicy herbs are a source of vitamins on the table. Almost any greens - basil, parsley, dill, spinach, sorrel or cilantro - will have time to grow in the garden after the garlic harvested in the middle of summer. By this time, there are practically no pests that are dangerous to these plants. The main thing is not to forget to water and cover the garden in time from the scorching rays of the sun. It is best to use a non-woven fabric for this purpose.
Siderata
Experienced gardeners and gardeners know a method that will certainly rid the soil of pests - planting siderates. There are several such plant helpers:
- Peas - will enrich the land with nitrogen and delight you with a delicious harvest.
- Mustard - will improve the condition of the soil and get rid of such pests as wireworm, bear.
- Oats - will give potassium to the kidney.
- Phacelia is a wonderful honey plant, which can also enrich the garden with microelements.
They plant green manure like this: water the soil and sow or scatter plant seeds, and then sprinkle them with a layer of earth. After waiting for the green manure to grow to a height of 20-30 centimeters, the garden is dug up along with what has managed to grow on it.
To understand what will grow better on a garlic bed, only the harvest will help. But we advise you to try planting different crops, such as cucumbers and greens, rather than leaving the land without planting until next spring.
