Unfortunately, not all apartments have panoramic windows to let in a sufficient amount of natural light. And many modern developers do not pay attention to the organization of a comfortable planning solution at all, churning out studio trailers.
Designer Victoria Ivanova told what techniques will help to make a dark room brighter.
6. Laconic window decoration
Since windows play an important role in this matter, it is worth taking care of their competent design. In order not to overload the interior and let in more light, you can leave them open and not use curtains. However, this solution may not be suitable for some apartments, for example, on the ground floor. In this case, it is better to use light curtains or roll-up curtains - they will not block all natural light, do not complicate the design and save you from looking from the outside.
There are also options for minimalist cotton curtains, like Japanese curtains, and day / night curtains. If the windows remain open, take care of the design of the slopes and window sills. One of the trends now is wood or slate finishing. You can also paint them with bright paint.
In addition, in order not to make a dark room even darker, do not litter the windowsill. Even fresh flowers can interfere with the light; it is better to rearrange them on the floor or on the loggia.
5. Light finish
Since light shades do not absorb sunlight, this is the most logical way to brighten a room. White or light gray colors are suitable for wall and ceiling decoration. Beige is not included in this category, since it is very difficult to choose the desired shade, most of them go into yellowness.
If you dread the feeling of a sterile space, use bright accents or black elements to add contrast.
4. Mirrors
Another easy way to double the amount of natural light is to use mirrors. When placed near or opposite a window, they reflect light directly into the room.
However, in this case, it is important to take into account that the reflection of a mess in the apartment or dark surfaces will not improve, but worsen the situation.
3. Lighting
The lack of natural light can be compensated for with artificial light. Therefore, it is extremely important to take care of the lighting scenarios. There should be no dark corners in the room, each functional area should be highlighted. In the kitchen there is an overhead light and lighting, behind the sofa there are wall sconces, a floor lamp by the armchair and suspensions over the dining table.
Soffits alone around the perimeter are indispensable. In addition, now there are excellent magnetic systems that allow you to add a light to a track or remove it with one click.
2. Minimum furniture
Avoid piling up furniture in a dark room. To let air in, you need to remove everything that is unnecessary.
Transparent tables and chairs are also a great option.
1. Transparent partitions
Owners of small apartments, in which there is one window in each room, should think about redevelopment. If you replace the blind partition with a glass one, it will not block access to light.
You can also zone the space with partitions made of wooden slats or MDF.
