Rose-leaved raspberry - Rosaline, a beautiful and tasty find

  • Aug 04, 2021

The birthplace of this interesting berry is considered to be the Baltic States, and there it is quite popular, although in fact the berry came to the Baltic States from Siberia. The Baltic people gave this variety the name Rosalyn. In our country, this variety is usually called rose-leaved raspberry.

This berry is a hybrid of blackberries and raspberries, but there is another opinion that it is a hybrid of strawberries and blackberries. Outwardly, the plant looks like a small bush, the height of which does not exceed one meter, with delicate light green leaves. Begins to bear fruit by the end of July and ends by late autumn.

For some reason, now it is often called Tibetan, although its origin is in no way connected with Tibet.

Its taste seemed unusual to us, and at first we did not take much interest in this berry, but over time we really liked it. Children have a special love for her: both ours and neighbors are happy to feast on the curiosity.

Fresh berries seem neutral in taste, slightly reminiscent of blackberries, but the jam has a strawberry aroma.

In addition to taste, the plant looks very beautiful in the landscape design of the site, especially against the background of conifers. It is simply impossible to pass by without paying attention, so we constantly receive a bunch of questions from our guests. Indeed, the plant has a decorative appearance - a beautiful bush shape, interesting leaves, fairly large flowers (up to 4 cm), as well as bright, eye-catching berries.

The plant must be handled carefully, as it is prickly. You need to wear protective gloves to pick berries and handle the bush.

We have Rosalyn planted in the garden, and every year the bush grows by about 70-80 cm. Every year, shoots die off by autumn, and in spring they grow again. Rosaline's roots are close to the surface, so loosen the ground near the bush with care. Rose-leaved raspberries can easily grow in breadth to neighboring places.

Top dressing is very welcome, especially respecting manure. It is recommended to apply manure in the spring. A layer of manure about 2 cm thick from above is covered with a layer of cut grass, and such a simple feeding scheme gives the plant all the necessary nutrients for the whole summer. Do not forget to water moderately.

In cold regions, it is recommended to cut the above-ground part of the bush in the fall, and cover the plant for the winter. It is best to plant the bushes in the fall. You can also transplant in the spring, but then you should not wait for the harvest this year, since the plant will experience stress.

A very large harvest on a bush of rose-leaved raspberries is a great rarity, but there are enough berries to feast on and treat friends. Another indisputable quality of it is hypoallergenic, so it is indispensable for children with diathesis.

Having planted an outlandish Rosalyn at your place, you will definitely not regret it. He will not only decorate your site, but also feed you delicious berries and surprise your friends.
