We live in a country where you can never relax, you always need to be extremely attentive and ready to fight back. Often sellers at sawmills and construction sites try to cash in on naive buyers. Today I decided to tell you about the main fraud options used by dealers of building materials.

1. The first way is wrong measurements

This fraudulent method is the most popular among sellers. I explain "on the fingers". You came to the store behind a board 23 millimeters thick. But the seller will break it for you at the cost of an "inch" board.

It turns out that you buy less material for a larger amount. The difference is taken by the cunning implementer or the store owner.

Let's get down to numbers. If the board has a size of 23x150x6000 millimeters, then its volume is 0.0207 cubic meters. The "inch" board has a volume of 0.0225 cubic meters. It turns out that the difference is as much as 8%.

With this scheme, you will overpay for the lumber. Of course, if you buy a few boards, you may not even notice that you are being deceived. But with large volumes of purchases, you will significantly lose.

I recommend going to the construction market with your tape measure to carefully measure every board you buy.

2. The second way - they sell less and take more money

Sellers often round up the numbers, naturally, in their own direction. For example, the dealer will tell you that a cubic meter of "inch" is exactly 44 boards.

Let's check. Let's take the calculations obtained earlier. Based on them, 1 cubic meter of an inch should hold 44.4 boards. That is, the implementer simply does not give you 0.4 boards.

Above is a table by which you can clearly calculate how many boards of different sizes are contained in one cubic meter.

3. The third way is the substitution of tree species

Often in the market, instead of the desired linden, buyers take aspen. Such beams are used for finishing steam rooms. Linden is durable and resistant to moisture. Its price tag is higher than that of aspen, besides, it practically does not rot.

By its external characteristics, it is difficult to distinguish linden from aspen, especially for an inexperienced buyer. But there are methods how not to fall for the bait of unscrupulous sellers. First of all, you need to look at the color of the wood. Aspen is almost white, linden is darker, coffee-colored.

Next, you need to take a closer look at the knots. Linden has light, small, almost imperceptible knots, but in aspen they are dark with a pattern.

In addition, these types of wood smell differently.

Also, stay alert when loading building materials. Because you can buy one thing, but they will load something completely different for you. Check the boards "on the spot". You may waste extra time, but it will pay off soon.
