At the beginning of summer, hydrangeas actively develop buds. The process requires a lot of effort, so fertilization is necessary. Top dressing is also needed during bud formation and during flowering.
In summer, fertilizer is applied several times a month. It is important to alternate between mineral and organic compounds. In August, top dressing should be nitrogen-free.
Used folk remedies and mineral fertilizers
Gardeners recommend using fermented milk products: kefir, yogurt or whey. The product is diluted with water in equal proportions.
In early summer, the culture is actively laying buds. This tool is suitable:
- Stir half a large spoonful of baker's yeast with three large tablespoons of sugar;
- pour a glass of warm clean water;
- dilute with water when the solution starts to boil.
The total amount of funds should be up to 10 liters. Yeast top dressing is relevant all three months of summer.
In June and July, it is recommended to apply complex fertilizers with nitrogen. They will improve metabolic processes and prepare the bushes for flowering. In June, you can also make a top dressing containing phosphorus and potassium.

In the second month of summer, you can use potassium-phosphorus supplements with a minimum of nitrogen. Fertilizer "Kemira flower" has good reviews. You can also use a weak manganese solution.
In August, hydrangeas are fertilized after they finish blooming. The shrub during this period needs potassium, phosphorus, magnesium. You can use one large spoonful in a bucket of potassium sulfate and superphosphate water. Nitrogen agents should be excluded.
Twice a summer you need to spray the flower with "Ferovit". The drug will compensate for the lack of iron and will counteract chlorosis.
After 7 days after mineral feeding, organic matter can be used. Manure, bird droppings or plant residues are suitable. Dissolve 0.5 l of waste in a bucket of clean water. The flowers are fed with liquid until the first days of August.
What do experienced gardeners advise
Blooming hydrangea must be fed so as not to harm it. With too much fertilizer, the crop will deform.
In August, it is not recommended to fertilize the flower more than 2 times every 30 days.
You should not constantly use folk methods of feeding. Hydrangea is a plant that does not tolerate large amounts of organic matter. It is better to refuse them in August.
Acidic solutions should be used between watering procedures. This is what will make the hydrangea lush with bright blooms.
All fertilizers must be applied to moist and loose soil. Water it abundantly 24 hours before the procedure. If it has been raining recently, you can skip watering.
