1. Open shutter
Initially a suitable technical solution, which became a serious problem already during the operation of the submachine gun in real combat conditions. Due to the drummer rigidly fixed in the bolt, the weapon began to "peck" forward during firing. This was due to the movements of the shutter when the cartridge was fed and then the primer was pierced. In addition, the open shutter caused a little "downtime" between pulling the trigger and the actual shot.
2. Weight
Despite the fact that this type of weapon is a submachine gun, even for the Second World War, the PPSh turned out to be quite large and weighty. Without cartridges, the weight of the submachine gun reaches 3.6 kg. For comparison, a fully charged and equipped with a bayonet AKM weighs the same. At the same time, with a fully equipped magazine, the PPSh weighed almost twice as much - 5.3 kg. All of this imposed known restrictions on the fighter's payload and ease of handling.
3. Rate of fire
The blessing and curse of Shpagin's creation. On the one hand, thanks to the prohibitive rate of fire for a submachine gun, the PPSh was extremely effective in creating a "lead shower". Which was especially good when the weapon fell into the hands of not too experienced shooters. However, the high rate of fire resulted in high ammunition consumption. In case of careless handling, one could be left without the first drum in just a few seconds of firing. All this also led to additional difficulties in preparing for battle ...
4. Drum shop
After World War II, drum magazines were not used by any army. And this is because despite the ability to carry a huge amount of ready-to-use cartridges with you, such magazines have two terrible drawbacks. First, they take a very long time and are quite difficult to equip. Second, they are extremely complex in and of themselves from a technical point of view. The operation of drum magazines, including their equipment, requires increased attention, caution and, most importantly, skill. The worst thing is that an inexperienced or careless soldier can easily break a drum while being loaded with cartridges.

5. Lack of interchangeability
Surprising but true. During the war years, 2 “native” stores were produced for each PPSh. At the same time, despite the fact that the submachine gun was made according to a single GOST, its stores were very often not interchangeable. Do I need to say that this state of affairs did not add convenience in the operation of the weapon? However, the Soviet fighters already at the front tried in every possible way to solve this problem in the field workshops, checking and, if necessary, adjusting all the shops at the disposal of the unit.
