Senshui is loved by many for its unusually mild taste and sweetish aroma. This onion variety was developed in Japan in the 1970s. It does not require special care, while showing good yield, therefore it has deservedly become a favorite among Russian summer residents. Senshui variety description

Feather leaves reach a length of up to half a meter. The bulb of this variety is slightly flattened, weighing from 150 grams to a quarter of a kilogram. It is easy to recognize by its characteristic aroma and lack of strong bitterness. It is eaten raw and canned.

Ripening period and yield

Senshui is an early cultivar, the greens can be eaten in May and the bulbs are ready to be harvested in mid-July. If you follow agricultural techniques, up to four kilograms of onions can be removed from one square meter of the garden. The variety came to the liking of many gardeners and its ability to withstand the most common diseases.

Landing

In order for winter onions to please with a good harvest, they must be planted according to the rules. Onions are a two-year crop, so if there is no seed, seed is grown in the first season, and the next spring a full-fledged crop will grow from it. Before planting, the seedlings are inspected for the absence of damage and disease on the surface. They begin to prepare the garden two weeks before the planned sowing work. Manure is added to the dug soil, as well as fertilizers. They do not touch the garden for 14 days so that it settles and rests. On the day of planting, ash is introduced into the soil and "waves" are made with a height of 0.2 meters.

Landing dates

Sowing dates depend on the area in which the crop will grow. Planting should be completed before the first frost. In this case, the temperature of the earth at the time of landing should be at around +5 ℃.

Top dressing

In the spring, urea is added to the soil at the rate of 10 grams per square meter. When the plant acquires two pairs of leaves, it needs to be fed with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Disease and pest control

To prevent pests from damaging the plants, for prevention, tobacco, red pepper is sprayed onto the beds or sprayed with marigold infusion.

Harvesting and storage

Yellowed feathers are the signal to start harvesting. This happens in early July. The bulbs are removed from the soil and laid out to dry for up to 10 days. They are dried in the shade for another 20 days. Then the bulbs are examined, the whole bulbs are trimmed - dried greens and roots are removed - and stored. Onions are best kept in boxes in a cool and dark place. Without loss of properties, it can be stored for up to 16 weeks, and a maximum of 24 weeks.

Senshui is a good onion variety for growing in small areas. The variety tolerates frosts without loss and is almost not sick and has good taste.
