1. From the end
According to a number of explanatory dictionaries, it is the adverb "right off the bat" that is always used in conversation. It means:
- without thinking about the consequences, without preparation, frivolously;
- without understanding the essence, swoop;
- unceremonious (outdated).
The origin story is not known for certain. Some sources say:
- "Off the hook" - a variation of the dialect expression "scandal", which means a technique in folk dance (when the heel goes down and the toe goes up);
- the phrase is associated with the dialectism "scandalous", which means a jump into the water with a somersault over the head.
Some associate the expression with a kontakion - a short prayer read on a specific church holiday. For example, when a priest, after a long service, asks his assistant to start "overnight" in order to finish everything as soon as possible.
2. With kandibober
The phrase "with kandibober" is not very common, its meaning is not so easy to find in dictionaries. According to the famous linguist Dmitry Ushakov, this is a vernacular expression used in a comic form. It means: gloriously, famously, for example, a guy danced this difficult dance with a Candybober.

In addition, over time, a headdress for women, distinguished by its pretentiousness, was also called kandibober. It is believed that the word entered the Russian language from the southern regions. At the same time, it is used everywhere in different meanings and is applied to various actions, for example, "kick out with a kandibober", "dance with a kandibober" and so on.
It will be no less interesting to know what Russian word helped to unmistakably identify a German spy in World War II.
