The advantage of cuttings roses in the fall

In the fall, the procedure begins during pruning in late October - early November. The event has a number of advantages:

  1. Roses that are grown in this way form wild roots. This greatly simplifies the care of the crop.
  2. Such flowers are highly resistant to frost. Even if the aboveground part freezes out, the plant will recover from dormant buds.
  3. Any healthy mother bush or even a gift bouquet is suitable for cuttings.

What roses are cuttings from?

Best suited for this method are:

  • miniature and polyanthus varieties;
  • climbing rambler;
  • excelsa;
  • large-flowered varieties;
  • floribundas (Iceberg and Rosalind).

Repaired, hybrid tea and park plants reproduce by cuttings poorly - they take root for a long time and form a weak root system.

How to carry out the workpiece correctly

For the procedure, choose healthy shoots, without signs of decay, disease or pest damage. Branch thickness - at least 5 mm. It should have 3 to 6 well-developed buds.

Cut with a sharp, pre-disinfected instrument. The cut should be 90o. It is dusted with crushed activated charcoal or wood ash to prevent fungus from entering.

Then the branches are cut into cuttings 10 cm long. Each incision is made, retreating from the kidney by 0.5 cm.

Next, the lower leaves are removed, and 1/2 of the upper leaves are left.

The top of the workpiece is dipped in molten wax to reduce moisture loss. The lower one is a root stimulator.

Storage conditions for planting material in winter

Cuttings are harvested for winter storage using one of the following methods:

  1. Trench storage. To do this, a furrow is dug on the site with a depth of 15 cm and a length exceeding the length of the blanks by 1 cm. A small layer of sand is poured onto the bottom. Burlap is laid on top. Cuttings are laid out on the fabric, covered with a second layer on top and lightly sprinkled with earth. With this method, both sections are treated with molten wax.
  2. In fridge. A microbiological preparation, for example "Fitosporin", is diluted in a small container. Sphagnum moss is treated with it. The cuttings are wrapped in moss, folding them in a bunch. It is fixed with a money gum and placed in a plastic bag. The workpiece is removed in the refrigerator door or fruit drawer.
  3. In the cellar. The box is filled with garden soil, peat and perlite in a 1: 2: 1 ratio. Cuttings are stuck into the soil mixture at a distance of 1.5 cm from each other. The box is covered with a black, opaque bag. The cuttings are checked and aired once every 10 days. If necessary, the soil is moistened with a spray bottle.

Planting cuttings in open ground

Cuttings are planted in spring, as soon as the soil warms up to 8 ° C and the threat of return frosts has passed.

Landing is carried out immediately to a permanent place or to a school.

The site is chosen with good lighting, but shaded at noon. So the bloom will be lush, abundant and bright. The flower bed must be protected from strong gusts of wind and drafts. The occurrence of groundwater is at least 1.5 m.

Roses prefer light, nutritious soil that conducts water and air well. Stagnation of moisture at the roots leads to the appearance of fungal diseases.

Planting cuttings in open ground is carried out in the fall. The procedure is carried out at least 14 days before the onset of frost, so that the seedlings have time to take root in a new place. Arcs are installed above such a planting, covered with agrofibre, and on top with spruce branches.

Cutting a rose is one of the fastest and most effective ways to propagate a garden beauty. Adhering to the rules for the implementation of the event, they get healthy, lush flowering bushes.
