A warm bed is a great way to speed up the rooting and growth of crops in spring. In warm beds, the ideal temperature regime for plants will be observed, the soil in them is fertile and rich in vitamins. However, construction difficulties may arise.
In the fall, it's time to take care of the plants and make warm beds.
Advantages and disadvantages
The advantages of warm beds are many:
- stable temperature for plants;
- guarantee that the soil will not freeze;
- ease of fertilization;
- no weeds;
- durability of use.
There is only one drawback - the need to periodically empty the garden bed and fill it with new fertile soil.
What to plant?
This planting method is suitable for absolutely all crops. However, to obtain the richest harvest, it is worth alternating planting. For example, plant cucumbers in the first year, tomatoes in the second, and so on, according to the degree of plant demands on the soil. In the last year of using a warm bed, plant unpretentious crops.
Varieties
There are a lot of varieties of warm beds. Let's highlight the most demanded and popular ones.
Igor Lyadov's beds
The concept consists in the construction of a box - an elevation above the ground by 25 cm, a width of 45 cm. The beds should be arranged from east to west.
Beds Medvedev
The parameters of the beds differ depending on the purpose. For example, for tomatoes, beds with a width of 60-70 cm are designed, for cabbage - 90 cm, and so on. The depth for all crops is 30-40 cm, which is enough for the normal development of the root system.
It is necessary to fill the beds in layers: first, the branches and roots of plants, then mulch, forest land, manure, and only then the fertile layer of soil.
Kurdyumov's beds
It is allowed to both raise and place in trenches. The depth of the bed should be 30-60 cm, width 50-60 cm. Compliance with a strict composition is recommended: a layer of roots and branches, earth, organic waste, then watering is carried out EM preparations, alternate soil with organic matter several times, spill with EM preparations again and lay out a layer mulch.
What to build from
The easiest option is to purchase a garden bed frame in a store. However, you can design it yourself.
Wood-polymer composite
The material looks like wood and has many advantages:
- not susceptible to water and ultraviolet light;
- keeps its shape;
- does not rot;
- safe;
- durable.
There is only one drawback - the cost.
Polycarbonate
More budget option. Polycarbonate does not rot on contact with soil and water, it keeps its shape well. However, in sub-zero temperatures, it becomes brittle and may break.
Wood
The most popular way to make beds due to cost, availability and environmental friendliness. The beds will last a long time if the frame is soaked with an anti-mold agent before filling.
Slate
The popularity of this method is due to the fact that slate, as a rule, is always on the farm, which eliminates the cost of material for the beds. The beds will turn out, but it is worth considering that slate is a rather fragile material and heats up strongly in the sun.
Iron
An extreme option for the manufacture of a frame made of galvanized iron. Iron under the influence of the soil will bend and lead to the fact that the walls of the bed will erode. In addition, iron is very hot in the sun.
How to make a garden in the fall
First of all, you need to assemble a box for a warm bed:
- dig a trench;
- remove the sod layer;
- install the box;
- cover the bottom with a mouse net;
- lay a layer of branches, then soil and manure;
- lay plant residues;
- alternate fertile soil with organic matter until the bed box is full.
- it is recommended to spill layers with EM preparations;
- make the top layer mulch.
Thus, there will be no difficulties in making warm beds if you follow the above tips.
